Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

IMG_2191But I’m one of the lucky ones- safe and warm!  It must have been a horrendous Christmas for those who were flooded or without power.  Nothing to do but try to smile and carry on.

Here, it’s been a mixed bag.  I didn’t have much luck on the beach at Crimdon on Christmas Eve.

I should have kept my eye on those clouds!

I should have kept my eye on those clouds!

The blue was disappearing at an alarming rate!

The blue was disappearing at an alarming rate!

Our skies have been very mean and moody!

How about this for a mean and moody sky?

But I wanted to reach the end of the cove

But I wanted to reach the end of the cove

I think that might be far enough!

I think that might be far enough!

Time to make a break for it!

Time to make a run for it!

Of course, we got wet!

Of course, we got wet!

But 2 minutes later, it looked like this.

But two minutes later, it looked like this.

Then we had a decidedly frosty day- our first this Winter!  The park looked very pretty.

Crisp and clear!

Crisp and bright!

The wildlife pond was looking rather handsome

The wildlife pond was looking rather handsome

But cold!

(if cold)

And part of the pond was frozen.

And part of the pond was frozen

But I loved the drama of the light.

But I loved the dramatic light through the trees.

Since then the winds have been wild, but I have no reason at all to complain. I’m sitting tight with my little snowman friends.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

Hope you’re having a peaceful time in these days between Christmas and the New Year.  I won’t be around for Six word Saturday for a week or two.  Keep Cate company, won’t you?  And a very happy New Year to you!

Fit to drop!  An apt expression!

This weeks’ Six word Saturday was to have been :

Getting Barcelona out of my system!

but the first is far more appropriate.  I took part in a zumba marathon last night, for the local hospice, and Lumiere at Durham absorbed all of my evening on Thursday.  I thoroughly enjoyed both but the mountain of ironing is giving me baleful looks, not to mention visiting all your lovely blogs.  What’s that saying- “the show must go on?”

Come on- hop on your bike and let's go!

As always, you can click on any photo to set the gallery rolling.  Well, I’m tired but happy now.  Any volunteers to do that ironing?  No, I thought not!

Instead, why not join Cate at Show My Face?  I always do!  See you next week.  Hope it’s a good one for you.

6ws-participating-in-bannerTime to see RED?  Not really!

IMG_0288If you asked me what my favourite colour is, I’d probably say red.  But when I look back through my photos I find that they are predominantly blues.  Often the reds are a wine colour, like the leaves from my Virginia Creeper, above.  Or I’ve used the red as an accent colour, like my favourite dress, which is white with deep blue and red flowers on.

I can have endless arguments with my husband about colour, but it doesn’t really matter.  It’s all beautiful, isn’t it?  No need to see red at all!

Thanks for humouring me this Saturday.  Hope your weekend sparkles, whatever shade it is.  Many thanks to Cate at Show My Face.  Hope she’s feeling better this week.  Do click on the logos or the link to join in.

The Autumn colour in Richmond

Autumn colour in Richmond, North Yorkshire

Even a sunshine bird like me can’t help but thrill to the colours of Autumn.   Crispy days, with the water running dark and the sun shining bright…

And glints through the leaves in Autumn

And glinting through the leaves.

Here is my gallery of yellow for this week.  Click on a photo to roll with me.

My kaleidoscopes of colour have brightened my Saturdays over the last few weeks.  I can’t resist the opportunity to add this one to the Weekly Photo Challenge, the hue of you.

Join Cheri’s challenge, or simply stay here, nice and comfy with Cate at Show My Face.  The world’s your oyster!

6ws-participating-in-bannerWhiter than white- the theme continues.

The frock in reverse

Will I ever tire of seeing this frock?

Lisa tells me that she’s worn it three times so far, including once at Carnival in Venice.  That’s not bad going for a wedding dress, is it?  I’ve been dusting off a few white memories myself.

How lovely is this dahlia? It's a huge bloom!

If you click on a photo below it will start the gallery rolling.

I’ve become a person of few words on Saturdays.  Have you noticed?  My husband loves the peace and quiet, but more than that, it seems to fit better with Cate’s challenge.  Thanks for indulging me.

Visit Show My Face to share your six words and read a few others.  It won’t take long!  Just click on the header or the link.

Not enough week- too many challenges!

imagesCA3IIGP0So, I’m going to do “a challenge within a challenge”.

PINK!

How boring, I thought!  That means girly things, flowers and sunsets.  But you know from last week that I love flowers and sunsets.  It’s two years this week since my first post and in all that time I’ve only done the CBBH Challenge four times, though I love Marianne’s work at East of Malaga.  Time to up the numbers!

Pretty pink, in Silves

Enough of the flowers.  How about some girly things?  As usual, click on any of the gallery photos for close ups and my cheery commentary.

Anyone got a birthday today?

Anyone got a birthday today?

Which sunset to finish with?  That’s the question!

Do you like this one, reflected in the puddle?

Do you like this one, reflected in the puddle?

Or the drama of this one?

Or maybe the drama of this one?

Well, I guess that’s enough pink to complete this challenge, and hopefully entertain my Six word Saturday readers too.  Thanks, Cate, for double hostessing!

With her challenge, Marianne traditionally invites you to introduce two bloggers whose posts you have commented on in the past month.

I have been following Richard at A Bit of Culture since he started his blog, and long before that with his superb, informative articles on Simonseeks.  Go and say “hi” for me!

Having accepted that Christmas might just be around the corner, I thought you’d like to see Cath’s beautiful craftwork on Lizzie Rose Jewellery.  She likes Portugal too, so we’re bound to be friends.

Naturally, a pink logo to finish!  Don’t forget to visit East of Malaga.

6ws-participating-in-bannerSAD victim? Trying not to be!

Sad cloudThis is the time of year I dread, so I’m taking every opportunity to revel in light, beauty and colour.

Is anything as beautiful as a sunset?

Is anything as beautiful as a sunset?

And there’s always beauty to be found in flowers.  Click on an image and smile.

So, no reason to be SAD yet awhile.  Share your thoughts with Cate at Six word Saturday.  It’s a friendly place.

Tavira, in the Eastern Algarve- not quite so sunny!

In fact, a little moody, but I still love it.

In fact, a little moody.

But with a promise of blue.

But with a strong promise of blue.

And back!

IMG_6528As you can see from the centre photos, the weather was quite temperamental when we were last in the Algarve.  I suspect that will not be the case this trip, as it’s in the 30’s currently.  Oddly enough the Summer has arrived in the UK too (yes, even the north east!) so I won’t have to feel guilty about leaving my English friends shivering.  It’s a win! win! situation.

So looking forward to dabbling my toes, and sharing special birthday celebrations with my husband. (his- I’m just a youngster- secret smile )  I also have a treat in store.  For a couple of days I’m playing hostess to Cathy or Catbird as some of you will know her.  Having left Oman she is now romping her way around Spain, and then Portugal, before returning home to the States.  Her exhausting itinerary is here, but won’t it be fun?

Enjoy Six word Saturday, as well as the weather, while I’m gone.  Many thanks to Cate at Show My Face.  Back soon!

No zumba for me this week

Wouldn’t you know that it’s a perfect English morning (at last!) and my normal Saturday morning walk down through the park to zumba would be a delight?  Instead I’m going to take you on an uphill walk which is the cause of my incapacity.  Then I might sit in the garden with a book- a novelty in itself! (and ignore the pile of ironing just a bit longer)

Unfortunately I wasn’t wearing the right kind of footwear, and as we scrambled back down again I could feel the damage to my toes.  It was the “quick route” down as everyone was starved and we were heading for a very nice restaurant as a reward for our efforts.

I struggle to get a shoe on and have been wearing flipflops ever since.  Still, I did enjoy the walk, and the company.  Hope you did too?  Don’t forget to visit Cate at Show My Face to see what’s been happening to everyone this week.  My Six word Saturdays are all on the button below.

Six Word silence for two weeks

Cheers of celebration!  You might have enough time to read everybody else’s Six word Saturday (mine are notorious for being a bit lengthy).

The reason for my absence?  As usual, my answer is in pictorial form.

And in case that’s not enough of a clue, here’s a link to a previous post of mine.

https://restlessjo.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/d-is-for-douro/

You’ve guessed  it!  The time has finally come to make that dream a reality.  I don’t travel with any sort of gadgetry (not even the laptop- I sense withdrawal symptoms coming on already).  It’s just me, the husband and the notebook, and not necessarily in that order.  So there’ll be a lot of catching up to do when I get back, but I promise to come and see you all and check out what you’ve been up to.  Might even have the odd photograph!

Till then, stay safe, and don’t forget to visit Cate at Show My Face.  Her weeks aren’t always easy, but they’re always interesting.  If you miss me at all you can check out some of my previous 6WS’s on the button below.
