Remember the lady with orange hair?

And her husband

And her husband

Yes, that IS an octopus fascinator and she calls him Ishmael.  I will be in Loughborough at a coffee morning for the Macmillan Nurses when you’re reading this.  Leo’s Dad died of cancer last year and his Mum is bravely hosting at her home.  I foresee a little fun in my weekend, though I won’t be wearing an octopus any time soon.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to respond to any comments today but I hope you’ll all still be playing Six word Saturday.  Cate at Show My Face hopes so too.  I’m scheduling this post because I’m away all weekend.  Catch up with you next week!  Take care!

The tents were up- show time!

The row of white tents transform the riverside

The row of white tents transform the riverside

Whenever there’s a fair or an event, a sea of little white tents mushroom along the riverside at Tavira.  Usually it’s confined to one bank of the river, alongside the gardens.  When I saw tents lining both river banks, I knew something big was happening.  The second Mediterranean Diet Fair had come to town!

Time to eat healthy!

Time to eat healthy!

Some of the products on display didn’t quite fit with my idea of healthy eating, but it’s all about selling as much as you can of locally produced goods.  You’ll see what I mean.

The local shopkeepers are not always so keen on these events.  They take away precious customers.  But most people are happy to browse a little.

I hope you enjoyed your Saturday browse round the shops and stalls.  The fair was accompanied by entertainment every evening too.  What a treat!  The Eastern Algarve usually is, I find.

Don’t forget to play Six word Saturday will you?  Cate at Show My Face is our hostess and will tell you the ‘rules’.  Have a happy weekend!

Sigh!  It’s wonderful to look back on.  I hope you enjoyed it too.  It’s a long Bank Holiday weekend here in England, so plenty to see and do.  I’ll still be walking on Monday so I’ll see you then.  Have fun, whatever you do, even if that’s nothing at all!

Cate at Show My Face would love you to play Six word Saturday, if you can find the time.

The cards are opened.  Enfin, Paris!

IMG_9807

Apologies for the terrible photographs, but I’m excited, you see!  I haven’t opened the top card, from ‘the girls’- it’s boxed and going with us.  Our anniversary is on Tuesday, when we hope to be at Monet’s Giverny.  Thank you so much for all your support and good wishes.  These are just a sample of the cards.  People have been so very kind.

This is where I shall be staying- in miniature.  No, not me- the photo!

As usual, my six words aren’t!  There I’ll be, in the garret, scribbling away in my diary.  Happy Saturday to you!  Don’t forget to join Cate at Show My Face.  I’ll leave you with a few flowers.

Roses for romance!

I won’t be around to answer you till late Thursday.  Take care!

Superb effect, isn’t it?  I could bore everybody witless with this one but I think it’s SO clever!  You might have seen the photo on my Thursday’s Special, using the same technique?  It’s done by using a free download called Lunapic.  I think it’s absolutely amazing!

The forecast is for storms this weekend so if you’re stuck at home, here’s something to play with. If I can find the time, I will too! Both photos are of Hartlepool Headland.

But first I need to visit Cate at Show My Face to play Six word Saturday.  Have a happy weekend!

But when the lights come on, there’s just a hint of magic

Sadly I wasn’t there long enough to see it fully lit, nor to climb the tower.  At £1.6 million it hardly represents value for money, but it is definitely different.  Part of a regeneration programme to breathe new life into this North Yorkshire town, it’s not so much a pier as a viewing platform, with 360 degree views of Redcar.

Renamed the Redcar Beacon, following a public vote, the tower has free admission and cafe facilities on the ground floor.  What was I doing in Redcar?  Attending an open evening for a friend’s latest venture.  If you happen to be passing, say ‘hello’ to The Clock Gallery.  There are some great photos on show.

What are you up to this weekend?  If you have some spare time, why not visit Cate at Show My Face, and play Six Word Saturday?  Have a good week!

Saying goodbye to a dear friend

My lovely friend, Christine

My lovely friend, Christine

Many times I have used Six word Saturday to convey a message.  My ‘six words’ are often smiled at indulgently.  Poetic license, I call it!  This week, there have been more tears than smiles.  The image of Christine smiling among the lotus plants is one that I hope to remember (and thanks Madhu for reminding me).

The news of her sudden death has reverberated across the blogging world, and made us reach out to one another and ‘hold hands’. It’s a lovely legacy, isn’t it?

I wanted to share with you Stuart’s comment on my tribute to Christine earlier this week.

Hello,

This is Stuart.

One day I may be able to tell all about our last amazing day.
I have just spoken with one of our beautiful yoga friends and blasted her with all the details. She said ‘That was a conscious death’.
I can’t quite grasp that yet but maybe someday.

The funeral is next Wednesday at 11 30 our time (at Broulee Chapel and Crematorium).
I have got a plain casket that I am going to paint with red lotuses.

Thank you her beloved blogging friends.
Maybe there is some way we can include you.
One of our clever sons will know.

Toby (middle son) has researched how you can get access to the book which has the first 4 months of her blog in it. She spent a month redoing all the images and text. it is pretty special.
It will appear either on her blog or facebook or both I think.

Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt messages.
It really really helps
Love to you all

Stuart

What a lovely family they are, aren’t they?  I had hoped to be online and thinking about Christine at the time of the funeral.  Sadly I miscalculated the time and it will be 2.30 Wednesday morning in the UK, so that may not be feasible.

Have a beautiful weekend, my friends.  I will be spending time with all of you.  And Cate, of course, at Show My Face.

The scarecrows ‘speak for themselves’ , but I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce my Monday walks page.  I’ve been posting Jo’s Monday walks since March and they’ve had a wonderful response.  I’m very grateful for all your support, and thought it was time I constructed a page to explain a few details.  A click on my new logo will take you to the page.

Speaking of logos, you won’t forget to visit Cate at Show My Face, will you?  She’ll be waiting expectantly for your Six word Saturdays.  Whether you’re chasing scarecrows, out walking or just relaxing at home, I hope you have a happy Saturday.

I still have a few memories to share some day, but later this week I’m heading to the Algarve and you know I’ll bring a pocketful of memories back.  The laptop won’t be coming with me.  It’s in very poor health at the moment and needs a little expert attention.  The camera will, of course, but I haven’t used it since an unfortunate episode on Monday.  Wish me luck with that.

I won’t be here for Six word Saturday next week but I’m pretty sure I’ll find you all the following one.  Meantime, don’t forget to visit Cate at Show My Face to read this week’s posts.  And, most of all, enjoy your Saturday!
