Tilting tipsily!

Idling till another storm

Thrashes their branches

I think I’d better dedicate this to Festival of Leaves, while a few still linger!  It’s been a wild one, but not quite so bad as expected in my part of the world.  Good enough anyway to let me visit Lumiere at Durham last night without getting soaked.  If you get chance, do go! It’s on until Sunday evening and our sea glass wave was beautiful.  Then I came home to yet another horror story from Paris on the news.  What is our world coming to?

I hope you can enjoy a peaceful weekend.  These are the last of my photos from the Lakes.  On Monday I will be sharing one last walk and then taking a couple of weeks off. (the Algarve and a visit to my daughter beckon)  Please say ‘hi’ to Cate and the folks at Six word Saturday if you can manage it.  See you soon!6wsButton

Thoughts on benches

A little meaningful conversation?

A little meaningful conversation?

Some posts seem to just glide effortlessly onto the page.  Others don’t!  They kick and bite and scratch.  You can’t find just that photo that you wanted, lost in the annals of untidy folders.  Too many thoughts collide in your head, often at silly times like 5 in the morning. And then there are those that miss the deadline by a smidgeon.  Just enough to be annoying.  I’ll leave you to work out which this is.

Rustle and tussle

A backlit ballerina

Twirling in the wind

And whilst I have been known to cheat occasionally, in the interests of a beautiful azulejo or two- can you spot these people sitting on benches?

I’m off out to kick a few leaves now.  You never know- I might spot somebody loitering on a bench.  If I do I may even share it with Jude.

All at sea

All at sea!

Wipeout!

Wipeout!

IMG_7838

Licking and licking,

With a greedy salted tongue.

Restrained by the tide

Adrift

Adrift

A starfish, rooted out of its home

Uprooted from home

A battle for survival

Battling for survival

Learning new skills

Learning new skills

And mastering them

And mastering them

Boys, ready for action

Poised, ready for action

Ships that pass...

Ships that pass…

I’m not sure quite where this wistful post came from.  It started life as a tribute to Lazy Poet’s Thursday Haiku and somehow morphed. Just me, rambling on Algarve beaches.  But this week, Gilly has the most beautiful Tanka.  Do go and see.

Hareshaw Linn on a Summer day

Linn or waterfall

Teaming down the weathered rock

Captive in the pool

For Viv, now in France, who knows this part of the world, and who most of you know for her poetry.  Hareshaw Linn is described as one of the best walks in Northumberland.

I hope the weekend brings you a little sunshine.  Not too much!  And that you’ll share it with Cate at Show My Face.  My walk on Monday takes me back down to Yorkshire.  See you then!

Do you write poetry, or prose?

IMG_5656

Orchids, wild and free

Waving through the longest grass

Come and play with me

Sweetest princesses

Blushing tenderly in pink

Or virginal, white

Perfect peony

Unfurling, day after day

Swirling in beauty

It’s funny how this blogging world changes you, and opens your eyes to new things.  I never used to carry a camera, except on holiday (with pretty dire results).  But, needing to liven up my dull pages, I started taking photographs.  Now I find it hard to walk past a blade of grass without wondering if it will make a good composition!  I exaggerate- but it’s not far from the truth.

It’s good to know that I have an imagination, and that with just a little persuasion from friends, I can learn to use it.  So now I’m tiptoeing into the world of Haiku, to see what I can find.

Sultry, smiling poppy

Teasing with her flirty skirt

Stamping a tango!

The storm clouds have descended this morning.  What better time to practise a new skill?  There’s so much inspiration out there.

I’m linking this morning to Lucile de Godoy at Bridging Lacunas.  If you don’t know her, you’re in for a treat.  And, of course, you’ll find me on Six Word Saturday.  It’s my Saturday morning home.

Lazy Poet’s Thursday Haiku

A double delight

Chasing away the rain and pain

With a child’s rapture

Sad cloud

You may be wondering if you’ve come to the right blog.  I don’t write poetry.  I borrowed the title from my lovely friend Gilly.  ‘Why not give it a try?’ she asked.  So here I am!

Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.  Thanks, Gilly!
