It’s not all lamb and salad!
Nor is it the best of photos, because it was an exceedingly murky day. As Mam used to say, ‘it’s not all lamb and salad’- in other words you have to take the rough with the smooth. Monday just gone was the perfect example of ‘rough’. As a general rule, our group don’t walk when it’s wet, but we had already set out for Hurworth Burn when the weather decided not to cooperate. Nothing for it but to pin on the grin and go.
The company was still good, even if the view was… indistinct. Gorse provided a little colour, but it’s a real contrast with my Burgeoning Spring, isn’t it? There’s usually a reason to be joyful if you look for it, and I did have the opportunity to practise some Macro.
Pussy willows are lovely, aren’t they, even when wet? Can’t share them with Jude, because these aren’t in a garden.
I’m walking again next Monday (I’ve booked sunshine!), but that will be my last post for a while. You might have noticed a lack of Algarve photos lately. That obviously means it’s time for a bit more ‘lamb and salad’.
Have a happy weekend, whatever your weather! Spare a minute to drop in on Cate with your six words?
P.S. I don’t normally do ‘plugs’ but if you saw my 6WS last week and liked the ‘teapot book’ you might like to look at Joanne’s stuff.

Lamb and Salad is new to me Jo! 🙂 You seem to be adept at taking the rough in stride. Beautiful set of images in spite of the weather!

It might have been rough, but you were able to capture some soft and delicate images. Hopefully the rough weather is over wherever you are now. 🙂

Just lucky, I think, Kathryn. I don’t have any camera tricks. What I see is what you get 🙂 Hoping to ‘get’ sunshine this morning. Thanks for your company, sweetheart.

What an unusual saying, I never heard it before!

I commented to someone that Mam was more of a roast beef and Yorkies kind of lass, Andrew, but it occurred to me this morning that lamb and salad would have been classed as luxuries ‘back then’. Happy Sunday! When do you go? 🙂

I’ve never heard “It’s not all lamb and salad!” but what a fabulous six word combo, Jo. It may have been a little dreary, but the surrounding beauty made up for it I think. And your photos with the raindrops are very nice. I hope you have a great time on your travels. I hope the weather delivers some sunshine!

I might copyright it, Debbie 🙂 🙂 And it was one of those walks I enjoyed in spite of myself, if you know what I mean. When it started drizzling I was a bit grumpy but the lambs soon cured that. Thanks a lot, hon!

Beautiful soft pictures. I love the pussy willows speckled with raindrops. Lambs are always awfully cute. Your mam’s saying is striking and unusual. You’d expect something like steak and champagne.

Back when Mam was a lass, lamb and salad would have been regarded as luxuries, Nicki. Those were the days of bread with beef dripping. A distant but real memory for me too. 🙂 Thanks, hon. Happy Sunday!

Of course I’ll accept your macros, who can resist raindrops on pussy willow? Not me! Lovely sunny day today, though tipping it down now, but who cares. If it rains through the night then I am happy so long as there is sunshine tomorrow (?) We had a good couple of hours in St Ives now that the tourists have gone home – and had lunch overlooking a beach. Now that’s exactly why I moved here 😀

Fresh air, exercise and good company sounds good to me, I’ll just find a shelter until you get back 😉 I love the pussy willows and the reservoir, but I’d rather the lambs say in the field eating salad than be eaten with it!

Mam was a roast beef lady, Gilly. I don’t think we ever had lamb at home. I certainly can’t bear the thought now. Not a veggie but I really don’t like handling meat. Salad’s a bit dull, but if I throw some feta and olives in it’ll do fine. And scones 🙂 🙂 My downfall! Good day of visiting?

I’m not veggie anymore, I eat fish but not meat. Feta, very black dry olives and some real tomatoes 🙂 At the hospital where I work the cafes all sell the most lush scones, fruit or cheese but I try to resist. Today was lovely, I chose to avoid tomorrow’s party this year, so I had Lou and Wills to myself, perfect x:-)x
