Not easy to find in Seaham?
You’d think that a bleak north eastern beach would be a good place to find a little Solitude, wouldn’t you? Strangely enough, that isn’t the case. This particular beach has become a mecca for sea glass hunters and gatherers.
You could hide out in the caves with a fair chance of solitude, but they’re not very safe. Erosion has created some fascinating shapes, though.
So your best bet is to head as far down the beach as you can go, without getting your feet wet, that is. Even there, a far from home Devon artist was determinedly hunting through the pebbles, looking for sea glass.
This is the lure, at the end of the beach. A solitary and beautiful rock, leaning out to sea. Seeking its own solitude.
There’s always a way to find solitude, if you crave it. For me, it’s an essential part of life. A bit like the Weekly Photo Challenge.
I hope this weekend brings you whatever you require. Cate usually requires six words on a Saturday, but often she gets more.

I haven’t been to the beach in the north east for a long time. Your photos capture the beauty that is there when you take the time to look.

I can’t remember where you’re based? This is about 20 minutes north of me, by car. 🙂 Thank you!

I live in North Yorkshire. Not near the coast! I went to University in Sunderland. It’s nearly 20 years ago since I finished my degree.

I’m zumba’d out, Jill. First one since the dreaded coughing virus. 🙂 Don’t think I’ll be doing much rambling today, though it’s beautiful out. Maybe later 🙂 Enjoy your down time!

Lovely photos (as always!) and perfect for the solitude theme. Sea glass has become a big thing, hasn’t it? I remember as a child seeing it on the beach and thinking it was an interesting thing, but it wouldn’t have occurred to me to pick it up and keep it – I was too busy looking for shells, or a good stone to throw into the sea. 🙂

We got involved when a friend was collecting it for the Lumiere show at Durham. (Every other year- it’s on again this November 🙂 ) Now whenever we go to that beach everybody is heads down looking. (except me cos I’m busy playing with the camera 🙂 ) Thanks, and have a good weekend hon!

What a beautiful place, and I’m glad you found some solitude. I might have enjoyed looking for sea glass too! I wonder if the hunters were successful. 🙂

There’s always some on this beach, Cathy, but sometimes it’s tiny. Mick collected some and handed it over to the artist I mentioned. He was chatting away while I was looking for nice shots. 🙂 Weekend off for good behaviour?

The sea glass sounds very interesting Jo but am glad you found a spot of solitude at the far end of the beach! Beautiful photos – wishing you a lovely weekend xx 🙂

I managed to keep them out of my photos, Rosemay, but there was an unbelievable number of people hunting. It’s mostly quite small and you can hunt a long while for not very much. It’s lovely here today, thanks. Fresh and bright. I walked across the park to zumba so I’ve earned a rest now. 🙂 🙂 Have a great weekend yourself!

You did very well Jo – the beach looks deserted! Crisp bright days in winter are my favourite! Have a relaxing weekend 😃

I really enjoyed the landscape and your pictures. How is the tide? I always have great respect not to be trapped by it.

Thanks a lot, Hanna 🙂 I do take care to avoid it at high tide. You wouldn’t want to get trapped in those caves!

It looks beautiful there. I’m surprised there weren’t more people on the beach. I love finding treasures washed up on the sand. I brought home a little. collection of fragments of blue and white china I found on the beach at Lyme Regis. Have a lovely Sunday.

I very carefully kept them out of my line of vision, Carol, but there were dozens of folk there hunting. It’s well known for sea glass because of the bottle factories that used to be here. Lynton and Lynmouth were on Julia Bradbury’s walking programme last night and I was very envious. Ours are rugged and not quite so pretty but I like them. 🙂 All good with you?

You and Mr ET both! He will wait for ages to get a photo without people in it. All well here!

We’re having rain , at last
Not that I like it ,but we absolutely needed something to clean the air…
Quite different from what you show here , plenty of light and blue sky!
Love your walk and your magnificent shots!

We haven’t really had much rain this year, Anna. A lot of grey skies at times, but the last couple of days have been clear and bright. It’s a joy to be out when it’s like this, but you need a warm coat 🙂 🙂 Thank you! Happy Saturday 🙂

There used to be bottle factories up on the cliff top, Andrew, and the debris was washed out to sea but keeps on returning in ever different shapes and colours. It’s become quite popular with jewellery makers and people who make arty souvenirs. 🙂 🙂 Thank you! It was a lovely day, and is again today.

Sad to hear about the erosion. It looks like a very nice place to play hide and seek 😐 In the photos of the water, in some of them it look like there are soap bubbles in the water lol 😀 Funny how the water looks sometimes. Have a good weekend, lovely ❤

The bubbles are because of all the pebbles I think, Mabel. The sea comes in with quite some force and stirs them all up. I love it 🙂 🙂

You know this is my kind of beach don’t you? I hope the Devon person found some sea glass, I’d be most put out if I didn’t. I think we’re going to have blue sky today, sadly I have to paint the conservatory wall so I probably won’t get to enjoy it very much. I Hope you have a lovely day sweetheart x:-)x

I had walk envy! 😦 Nice here this morning so I’m going to wander across the park and give zumba a go. Sending hugs, darlin.
