Strange place to find yarn bombing!
Being in Saltburn last week reminded me of an unexpected find on my recent trip to the Algarve. It was a grey and slightly surly day, with just a hint of sunshine, and I was strolling the seafront at Quarteira, seeking distraction. Near neighbours with Vilamoura and its extravagant bevy of yachts, Quarteira is a rather more ‘homely’ resort. Market day on Wednesday draws a crowd, and there are inevitably folk ‘taking the air’ on the long promenade. Efforts are being made to lure holiday makers further along the coast, with a new stretch of promenade and cafes beyond the small fishing harbour. Always nosy, I was wandering over to take a look when I spied these.
They couldn’t fail to brighten up a grey day, could they? I’m quite looking forward to seeing if Saltburn brighten up their pier again this summer. Do you remember last year’s yarn bombing?
Hope you have a colourful weekend. Mine will be full of washing. I guess that’s colourful enough! Have fun, and maybe pop in and see Cate at Six Word Saturday. See you on Monday for another walk.

The nurturing and care of trees makes me happy. I haven’t seen it much here in the states but I did see it in the NL ! I never knew it was called yarn bombing !

It’s a funny expression, isn’t it Kathryn? I heard it a lot of times before I even realised what it related to. Love it! 🙂

Such details (pearl necklaces!) – but your mention of the dreary days makes me afraid for these creations in the rain. I love the idea of yarn bombing, and love it when I come across them, but my next thought is always what happens when it rains, or when they get dirty, or when they get torn, or when the birds get friendly with them…

Now, I can’t vouch for the birds, but they do survive rain quite well. 🙂 The ones in Saltburn regularly get a good soaking. Not such a problem in the Algarve, though 🙂

You know I am going to 💘 this post! I am excited about seeing yarnbombing in real life myself. These are really inticate patterns for yarnbombing, I think.😍

Yes, I think the ideas are great, Mlissabeth. I can knit and do basic crochet but I’d never attempt something like this. Perhaps I should! 🙂 🙂

Everything seems much brighter here than in the southern hemisphere. What’s going on? Maybe brighter by contrast with grey? This is wonderful craft and beautifully photographed. Who are the faces?

Good question, as usual, Meg, and I have no idea! I presume you mean in the movies scenes. There were a couple more but my photos didn’t come out great. We had a couple of murky days in the Algarve and I had to look for other entertainment. Not too difficult really 🙂

That is some of the best yarn bombing I’ve seen. I love this form of street art and am always looking out for it.
Enjoy your washing, Jo!!

The boy’s washing is done. Just a mountain of ironing now, Debs 😦 No rest for the wicked 🙂

Jo, I just do not understand why on earth you are still doing your son’s washing! buy him a washing machine for goodness sake!

I don’t iron, well maybe once or twice a year. I buy things that save me the work, rarely need to be that smart and have mastered the art of folding to perfection 🙂

And my son can iron better than me by far – since his early days in the Navy! I think he’s just laugh at my efforts.

These are wonderful. What fun. We saw some in São Brás a few weeks ago perhaps there was an Algarvian ‘yarn bomb’ we missed?!

There’s a lovely little new cafe, Casa da Barreira, in Sao Bras near the TI, Becky. Can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it since I came back? Will keep an eye open for yarn bombs when I’m back next month. 🙂

I love yarn bombing, and this collection has lots of great detail – it must have taken someone (or a group of someones) a long time to do.

So fiddly, isn’t it, Elaine? I can crochet simple stuff but these are really clever. 🙂

Beautiful yarns, Jo. I really like the ones with the little dolls on them. So cute. We also have yarn lining trees here in Melbourne, but these are certainly more creative in my opinion 🙂
