Six word Saturday

Does anyone out there understand Gravatar?

Following on from my Six word Saturday last week, I was prompted to ask. You see, I’ve never understood the concept of Gravatar very well.

Having decided that ‘likes’ were swamping my Inbox, and that neither myself nor my laptop were coping well, I thought that I might return some of my visits by clicking on a Gravatar. This works in some instances, but often I find that the Gravatar is not linked to a website. What is the purpose of a Gravatar if not to display the sources where a person can be contacted? An email address and a photo is of no help in this context.

Not sure what my own Gravatar would reveal, I took a quick look. Relief! The website is there, so you can find me, if you need to. And now I’ll carry on and entertain you with a few orchids, in one of our loveliest stately homes, Burton Agnes, in North Yorkshire.

The carvings and wood panelling are quite extraordinary, I think you’ll agree. Both house and gardens will repay a visit, if you get the chance. Meantime, don’t forget to share six words with Debbie. She’s in reflective mood this week. Wishing you a happy Saturday!

A Bench challenge and an orchid

A gentle day, on the north east coast of England. My friends and I amble along, in search of a bench where we can sit for a while, admiring the view.

A good-looking bench, but facing the wrong way

Ah, here it is! Spotlit so we can’t miss it

It’s not a perfect day, but pleasant, in a very English way. The kind of day when it’s good to be on a cliff top bench, gazing out to sea. After a while we ease ourselves up and carry on.

These posts frame the bay beautifully

And they tell a story

Of the rocks and shells

Which make up this coastline

At this time of year small orchids radiate out from the grass. Careful not to tread on them, I kneel down for a closer look. Pretty, aren’t they?

I’m astonished at the colour!

I don’t think I’ve seen this shade before

Though its paler friend is prolific

Blending with the golden trefoil around the quarry

When our walk is done I carry on down to the small marina at Seaham, looking for a sheltered spot where I can read. There must be a bench or two?

Careful not to upset Judge Jude by breaking any rules, I’ve been quite subtle with my post processing of Benches. But I just had to give Lunapic one more whirl. What do you think? All of the images except for the last one were done in Ulead Photo Express, in quite an old version.

Say it with flowers

My walk into town took me twice as long as usual yesterday. The camera just wouldn’t stay in my pocket! So I have a small bouquet to present. What better way to tell someone you love them? These are for my daughter, Lisa.
