Strange place to find yarn bombing!
Being in Saltburn last week reminded me of an unexpected find on my recent trip to the Algarve. It was a grey and slightly surly day, with just a hint of sunshine, and I was strolling the seafront at Quarteira, seeking distraction. Near neighbours with Vilamoura and its extravagant bevy of yachts, Quarteira is a rather more ‘homely’ resort. Market day on Wednesday draws a crowd, and there are inevitably folk ‘taking the air’ on the long promenade. Efforts are being made to lure holiday makers further along the coast, with a new stretch of promenade and cafes beyond the small fishing harbour. Always nosy, I was wandering over to take a look when I spied these.
They couldn’t fail to brighten up a grey day, could they? I’m quite looking forward to seeing if Saltburn brighten up their pier again this summer. Do you remember last year’s yarn bombing?

Oh yes, our world definitely needs harmless wacky whimsy! I saw something today that at first I thought was yarn bombing — a tree outside the Australian Museum with brightly coloured tufty-things completely covering the trunk for, I dunno, 10 metres (?). High enough to need some mechanical means of reaching! It wasn’t crochet, but I still have no idea what it was or why! No camera, alas. 😦

I ADORE yarn bombing and these works are just glorious. I especially love the one with the pictures. I missed your post n this last year so I just enjoyed two years of fantastic art this morning at the hospital cafe’ on a very rainy autumn’s day. So let’s just say these images were exactly what I needed to make me smile.

I agree with you that the charm of these brightly colored pieces would brighten any day. They remind me of some of the handmade embroidered pieces I found in my grandmother’s things years ago. They definitely add cheer. 🙂

I love yarn bombing. We found a couple of yarn-bombed trees in Buenos Aires before I even knew what yarn bombing was. Beautiful. Scroll down to the last two shots.

I don’t see much yarn bombing around here. I love to see your Saltburn ones they are always so magical, but these are pretty good too. Hope you have finished the ironing. You spoil that son of yours terribly Jo.

I’m well aware, Jude, but it’s taken him a while to grow into a nice person and he’s appreciative in other ways. Just doing my bit because he has quite a tough working week. 🙂 There is a laundry in the basement of the apartments where he lives but I don’t think he’s found it yet. 🙂 🙂 Happy Sunday!

I often think it’s a shame I can’t write, quilt, crochet, garden and bake all at the same time. It would be handy if I didn’t have to sleep and go to work too!

I as just thinking about yarn bombing yesterday – I have a few examples scattered through the blog and was thinking about drawing them altogether for a post. Nothing as intricate as this though!
