Alice in… Saltburn-by-the-Sea
I could have chosen a better day to visit Saltburn, but the sun was shining when I left home. At least I didn’t have to elbow my way through the crowds, but the wind had Alice and her friends bobbing about a bit! Still good fun, though. See how many characters you can recognise?
Don’t forget to click on the smaller photos for details!
I had such fun playing with these guys! Each year Saltburn comes up trumps with its yarn bombing, whatever the weather. I hope you enjoyed it too. Thanks to Elaine for reminding me, because I almost forgot.
Have a happy weekend, won’t you, and don’t forget to pop in on Cate at Show My Face with your ‘six’ words. See you Monday!

Thank you Elaine! Reminding Jo produced a post that made me smile – and think maybe I should re-read “Alice”. A creative way of yarn bombing indeed.

Yes, I think Alice might make good holiday reading next time I go away, Meg. Or maybe in the garden, with coffee and cake 🙂 🙂

Jo for a minute I thought these were on handlebars of a bike. I would love that. Imagine all the conversations I could have while I was gasping up some nasty hill! 🙂

With the characters you mean, or the passersby? (now there’s a conundrum! what to call someone who’s not passing by but simply standing gawping at Sue?) 🙂 🙂 I’ll have to see if I can commission some for you. It might almost be worth getting my knitting needles out for!

The knitted characters is what I had in mind Jo. Can’t you just see me chatting them up on a ride? 🙂

It would probably take your mind off the pain, so long as the hills weren’t too steep, Sue 🙂

Exactly Jo. I may get some interesting looks with my little guys attached and talking to them but who cares. 🙂

That would certainly put a smile on my face, no matter the weather!
How do these lovely creations get made? Is there a new theme each year?

It appears there’s a secret knitting society in Saltburn, Jackie, and every May time these characters just ‘appear’ overnight. Weird, huh? I’m certainly not in on the secret so I don’t know who chooses the theme (not me! 🙂 ).

What fun they all are. The two Queens don’t look nearly as frightening as they are in the book. Gave me terrible nightmares at the time. 😕

Love the characters from Alice in Wonderland.
Lewis Carroll I wonder is there a connection to Pauline Carroll,
Probably not on her mothers side it was Booth and she is not a Sally Army girl.
I just wanted to say nice post Jo.

I find doubles too quick for me, sorry I missed Murray yesterday but I forgot it was on the BBC website. Tomorrow might be good, if it doesn’t rain on them.

So glad you posted this, Jo! Brought me back to a lovely memory of my mother who knitted a set of tiny pastel teddy bears for my first child many years ago. I still have it, of course, and think I will get it out and enjoy looking at it again! Happy weekend to you!
