Six word Saturday

Will you be having an

EGGSTRAVAGANZA?

Egg treeMy Easter is fairly quiet, with a few familiar and loved items around me.  Mam always used to make paste eggs and for many years I followed suit.  These days I don’t have anyone to play “jarpies” with me, or hunt for Easter eggs, but I did have a lovely celebration with my lady friends on Maundy Thursday.  Before we met up I had a browse around Newcastle, and couldn’t help but notice that Easter has gotten a whole lot fancier these days.

See what I mean?

Even Shrek's in on the act!

Even Shrek’s in on the act!

Me, I’m happy with a few flowers, the painted eggs I brought back from Poland a few years ago, and a soap duck and chick bought for me by my late Aunt Anna in Kraków’s Rynek Główny.

And on the mantlepiece, a floppy bunny (with eggs hidden inside- thanks, Kath!) and a few cards.

    1. Sounds great, Indah 🙂 You won’t be able to move with all that food inside you 🙂 I’ve been busy making lunch, etc but the weather has been unexpectedly lovely so I managed to get into the garden with a book for a while.

    1. Hmmm! I have the Sunday lunch to cook and catchup washing and ironing for my prodigal son ( (: ) but right now I’m chillin’. Thanks and happy Easter to you too, Beth. 🙂

  2. your painted polish eggs are beautiful – and I wonder the mastermind behind the Shrek jelly bean display… (I assume it is jelly beans…)
and with older kids we are not doing too much. However, with our dinner, I am going to have an assortment of edibles on a bowl.. some “peeps” (yellow of course) – then I bought a bag of “Gimbals” jelly beans – and have some misc. chocolate items. I also have some dyed hardboiled eggs that will go in the fridge for snacking (or sandwiches in the week).
well have a great rest of your day and see you during the week amiga

    1. Happy Easter to you and the family, Yvette 🙂
The Shrek jelly bean picture was some kind of competition, but I can’t remember what. I was with a friend at the time and she was being very patient while I tried to get a few photos. Dinner’s washed up and we had a pleasant stroll down to our local park, where they were having some kind of Easter funfair. In glorious sunshine, would you believe? Better get my walk done now 🙂

  3. Wonderful decor for your Easter celebration. It’s simple for us, too. Salmon on the grill, salad and rice. If we eat outside on the deck, that will be as celebratory as we get. Hope your Sunday is wonderful.

  4. Very simple, here. Just a few painted eggs from Ron’s mother and some flowers. Since I am surrounded by retirees whose families don’t get down for Easter, we get together for a meal with everyone contributing a dish. Happy Easter, Jo. 🐰🐥🐣🐰 💐

  6. Looks like you have some special items for the day. We used to decorate more, when the kids were younger, but don’t take the time anymore. I wish I had more energy to sort through those things…

    1. Hi, Mlissabeth and happy Easter to you! 🙂 I used to love the silly things like decorating eggs. I can remember a Star Wars theme one year, but I don’t have anyone to humour me any more 🙂

  7. I love your painted eggs and your bunny Jo. And you are right, Easter is so very different to the way it was when we were kids. I remember doing an Easter egg hunt with the kids in the back garden and now it is very quiet in that regard, no grandchildren to carry on the tradition…yet! Happy Easter my friend, hugs to you and see you on Monday 🙂 xx

    1. I was just reminiscing over some Star Wars themed eggs we decorated one year, Sherri 🙂 I had a great night out in a friend’s pub last night (feeling a little fragile this morning 🙂 ) and our lovely ladies evening on Thursday, so it’s gently down hill today with the cooking etc. Feeling lucky I’m not Lynne and don’t have to clean the pub pre-Sunday lunch 🙂 Happy Easter, darlin’!

  11. Happy Easter, Jo! We still have a Polish feast on Sunday with babka, kielbasa, ham, horseradish, etc. our two year old granddaughter will search for eggs, and enjoy a basket of goodies, and I will try to snitch some chocolate eggs. Our new grandson will get lots of cuddles. Can’t wait! Love your Easter photos!

    1. Thanks, Linda 🙂 The painted eggs are common in Poland and in the markets they have crosses made from corn. I like a little bit of colour to cheer the place up in case the weather’s gloomy 🙂 Happy Easter, hon!

  12. No Eastereggs here, they are basically unknown, so far! 🙂 Springflowers – neither (and orchids dont seem right for Easter), but many many Churchgroups staging “Stations of the Cross” in their various areas, stopping at certain houses along the way for prayers – this reminds me of “the olden days” in Germany when I was little. Have a blessed Easter, Jo. Carina

    1. That’s rather a nice way to do it. 🙂 There will be much more religious significance in Poland and Portugal. Here it seems to have become more about the chocolate! Thank you- and you, too, Carina 🙂
