Approaching Hart Village as night falls

I’ve followed this project almost from it’s beginnings and every week I mean to join in.  We’ve had a couple of lovely sunsets this week but I was bored with my usual ‘back bedroom window’ scenario.  Trouble is, most of my days are pretty busy and I can rarely summon the energy for an evening stroll.

It seems such a waste when those Summer nights will be shortening soon.  So, I grabbed my jacket and off I went, up the hill in search of a sunset.

I scurried up the hill, which is quite steep (another reason I don’t do evening strolls), desperate to reach the top before the light faded.  Cars swept past me, racing for home, or the pub.

That glow on the horizon lured me on

I was on the edge of the village- almost there!

But still I couldn’t find the vantage point I really wanted, and those sweeping views I had in mind. I raced up through the village, nodding to the occasional dog walker.  Past St. Mary Magdalene’s lovely church and into Butts Lane, I started to look at my watch. Time in the allotted slot was ticking away.  I’ve never been very good with deadlines!

But then I thought to myself, ‘does it really matter?’  Here I am, out in the world with my camera, doing what I love best.  Lucky to be alive.

And the sheep seemed to concur!

You’ve seen these sheep already today, on Paula’s Thursday’s Special.  They were very interested in what I was up to, lurking on the outskirts of Hart Village.

And then it was time to head for home, tired but happy.  I had already walked to Hart earlier in the day for a t’ai chi class, and retraced my walk for Christine on the return journey.  Thankfully, my days are not always so hectic.

I glanced in at the village pub, half tempted

But I didn’t fancy the walk back to town in the dark.  A quiet glass of wine at home would be my reward, and it was all downhill on the return journey.

I cannot claim that this was a typical evening, but I enjoyed it very much.  I hope that you did too. The photos were all taken between 9.00 and 10.00pm.

Lisa’s 1 Day 1 World Project is an interesting one.  Why not follow the links and join in?

  1. aahh alles klar …. am glad you summoned the energy for this one Jo . You’re a very busy lady by all accounts !
Lovely sunset roamings … it’s good being out this time of evening in the summer … all mellow .. or is that after I’ve had my glass of wine …

    1. Well spotted, Ann. 🙂 The statue is one I’d never seen before, at our rather posh golf course, just up the road. (I don’t play) The sun was beaming in so beautifully I was trying to capture a long shot, and there I found this little beauty.
The cloud fish was pure coincidence 🙂

  2. Beautiful photos from a marvelous walk! In my corner of the world, it’s pitch black outside between 9pm and 10om and has been for a couple of hours! I have thought about Christine all week. Lovely to be reminded once again, through your walk!

    1. Me too, Debbie. I keep going back to Dadirridreaming to see if there’s any news.
It is quite fascinating how the light changes around the world, isn’t it? I really like this project, which kicked off at 12pm- about the same week as I started my Monday walks. I’m a little slow getting there. 🙂

      1. You may not yet have noticed but there is a new update posted a few hours ago, Jo. The family shared from Christine’s service. It’s a beautiful share. You will want to sit and savor it! ox

  3. 🙂 Those pretty sheep … perhaps not as exotic as wildebeest, but seeing them there, at the edge of the moor, is such an evocative picture, particularly as foreground to wispy pink clouds at 10 o’clock at night! I’m sooo glad you took us out of the house for this evening excursion – Project Sunset accomplished.

    1. It’s been a strangely uncharacteristic week, Meredith. The following evening I was on the seafront at Redcar shooting at windmills! We were at an open evening for a friend’s photo gallery and I couldn’t resist running down to the seafront for a few shots. 🙂
      Thanks for your company.

  4. Who else but my favorite photographer would go through so much trouble for her fans? 🙂 I hope you did have that nice leisurely glass of wine once you go home, Jo. I’m glad you weren’t out wandering dark streets…I have enough to worry about. xoxo

    1. I did, Jill 🙂 My husband goes out to play bridge on a Wednesday night and when he saw this post he said ‘I didn’t know you had a secret life’. Not so secret, when you’re a blogger. 🙂

  5. I love these photos, especially the night falls… You also captured the tranquility of the night, Jo.
The fish-shaped clouds are so special. 🙂

  6. Lovely Jo! You live in a beautiful area. Looks like you are relatively close to town? I love walking in the evenings but don’t do it so much as the kids are up later. The sun doesn’t set here until after 9:30pm so it is beautiful at night in the summer. 🙂

      1. I bet it is just lovely Jo! We live in the city but Minneapolis still is quite lovely as we have four lakes surrounding it and my favorite is only five blocks away.

    1. Don’t blame you, Viv. Our bedroom views are fine but you’ve always got rooftops in them and I wanted something a bit more exciting. Herds of wildebeest sweeping across the plains…. 🙂
