This is a first for me- a single photograph! There is a good reason, as I will be posting more in Six word Saturday tomorrow, but this little mermaid seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The view is of Huntcliff Nab at Saltburn-by-the Sea, another of North Yorkshire’s charming seaside resorts. A tradition has grown up in recent years of festooning available railings with knitting. Last year was, of course, the Royal Jubilee, but I was very taken with this year’s seaside theme, artistically draped along Saltburn pier.
I’ve written about Saltburn before, in a post called Secrets, which gives a little of the area’s history. Meantime, I hope you like my entry for this week’s Daily Post challenge. Huntcliff Nab is beautiful in its own right but I love an Unusual Point of View. Click on the link to view the other entries.

It’s hurling down here too! But my Dad’s delighted as he won’t have to water the garden now

If I remember correctly Jo, all the knitted objects went AWOL for a while (presumably stolen), then after being reported in the local press they all decided to return. 🙂

I hadn’t heard that, David. Some people are mean!
We were there Thursday afternoon and it was glorious but they’ll be a little soggy now, poor things. The floods were dreadful in Saltburn. 😦

She is looking more like medusa 😛

We don’t get to see many real ones, do we Holley? 🙂 Thanks! I’ll be around later.

I like your knitted mermaid It looks as if someone spent a few hours put her together.

Thank you 🙂 She had a whole host of friends. I’m just about to put together the gallery now, but I loved the mermaid (even though she’s a bit out of focus)

Don’t ask me why, but when I saw the photo, I immediately thought of the movie Castaway….WILSON!!!!!!! I hope you know what I’m referring to or you might think I’m crazy. 🙂

Nothing wrong with being a little crazy, Jill, but I’m following you on this one 🙂

I was chatting to Paula at Lost in Translation about a totally different potential subject, Amy, but I had a brainstorm and posted this. She is lovely (the mermaid! Paula too, of course) but not well focussed. I’m going to do the gallery of knits on 6Ws. 🙂

I’m putting up a gallery of them later today, Suzanne. They were brilliant! This isn’t a very good shot now I look at it properly, but the idea is wonderful. 🙂

A bit unfocussed when I look at it in the moning light, Tobyo, but too late to think of that now 🙂

I didn’t notice that 🙂

Very unusual. Is this knitted mermaid done by a local?
LikeLike
Yes, there were a whole range of knits, which I’m going to post later today. Allegedly nobody knows who contributes them- they’re tied on the railing at dead of night- but that’s just a piece of whimsy. (as are the knits 🙂 )

She is definitely an unusual mermaid.

She had a wonderful gallery of friends, Colline. I’m sorry it’s not a better photo. It’s probably a poor choice but I liked her a lot. 🙂

Never do things in a rush! That should be my motto, Sue. The focus on this shot is terrible and would have been far better as part of the gallery on 6WS, which is what I set out to do when this idea hit me. Will I ever learn 😦

Oh, crikey, Jo…stop berating yourself!! I, for one, never learn. I am forever forgetting to check camera settings, most usually white balance…. I think I might leave it on auto, and do it in post processing…
