A eulogy to rack and ruin
Vila Real de Santo António has the most magnificent location, at the mouth of the River Guadiana, and directly across the border from Spain. Sadly, scenes like this are still commonplace, even on the waterfront, but there’s a lot of hammering and renewal going on. Hopefully one day the town will realise its true potential. Meantime, let’s play Six Word Saturday. Have a great weekend!

Oh dear, here I thought you were showing us some ancient ruins Jo!!! Love the way you shot the view to the sky and trees.

Makes for good photos, although it might not be so much fun if it were your house. 🙂

These were warehouses and sardine factories I believe, Janet, and I’m pretty sure that one fine day they’ll become apartments. But it may take a while 🤔💕

To me and my eyes, those buildings have a certain attraction/fascination, even in their derelict state.

Most of us don’t have to go far to find those corners. 🤔

Is it accurate to say the ruins are beautiful in a weird kind of way?

Yes, a lot of people like ruins and the stories they tell. 🤗💕

They kind of have to be seen to be seen to be believed. A very down at heel bit of town 🤔💕

I thought this might appeal, Sue 🙂 🙂 One day the whole waterfront will be turned into apartments or whatever, but for now it’s a sight for sore eyes.

I love the first shot, it’s very artistic 🙂 I think in some cases ruins often look better than restored places, they have a certain character about them.

There’s character and there’s crime, Eunice. In this case I’d agree with you but on the same street there is the most magnificent building just crying out for a bit of attention. I was going to include it in this post but felt it would just muddy the waters, and these shots work well together. 🙂 🙂

I like the view through the wall through the wall, Jo! I think we could all do with looking beyond things at present! 🙂

I know exactly what you mean, Tom. ‘To hell in a basket’ is a phrase Mam used. Seems to fit the current situation 🙂 🙂

You too Jo. But rack and ruin will be all too evident world-wide for quite a while, I imagine.
