A flawed invitation!

There can be few nicer hostesses than Su, so when she offers Tea time in the blogosphere it’s hard to refuse.  I’ll be a little more restrained this time, because I was definitely over the top last month.  I’m a big fan of carob and orange cake, nor do I mind the odd custard donut.  Perhaps you’d like to join me?  Oh, how very rude!  I seem to’ve started without you….  I’ll get it right next month- I promise!

    1. I would, Su! I came by it in a job lot of books from a friend when the local libraries closed. My other half is a much faster reader than me, and I get distracted by other stuff. I found this slow to start with but it’s great subject matter in a period of history that you can’t help but be moved by. I took some photos, originally, for the other Sue’s Cup of coffee and a book series, and this is one I didn’t use. 🙂 🙂

  1. Careful Jo when you offer me a slice of Jo, I slice my cake THICK and that carob and orange cakes looks tempting ♥ I didn’t get the memo we were doing this monthly but I did have cake yesterday. My dear wife made rhubarb and cranberry cake with a cinnamon sugar topping. I love it when the cake crust is a bit crunchy. I confess Jo I had too much cake yesterday, so I will behave better today, just my usual hobbit meals in the morning. you know about those? – David

    1. Not at all, David? I’m not on close terms with any hobbits. The rhubarb and cranberry sounds wonderful. You’ll have to get the missus to make some for next month. It’s around the 13/14th of the month. 😋🍩🍰💕

  2. My high-flying niece (works in American bank in London for humongous salary) has a friend who has just started baking and delivering cakes etc. and yesterday I received in the post an Afternoon Tea Set. This inlcuded scones, butter, jam, cream and proper tea – leaves not bags. It was a lovely surprise and I’m hoping the friend makes a go of it, but I imagine in the circles they move in it will. She would starve in my area trying to make a living like this.
Sent from my new site, still struggling to get the old one fixed.

  3. Oh, orange cake is something magical, indeed. I got familiar with orange-things (jam, orange-black-tea, cakes) I think back in the year 2006 when I visited UK first time in my life. And the first and second English experiences of taste and life I had in Devon. Three years ago I moved to Devon, Exeter. Now I am living in Cornwall and fulfilling my dreams. Month ago I sent a little (the littlest actually) jar of orange marmalade to my 89 year old granny, and she, adoring this tea-spoon of sunny-taste, kept it weeks on the table, just to look at it and wait to taste, so the pleasure lasts longer. #orange

    1. I was just sorting my postcard collection and it’s 50 years since I was in Cornwall! But I still enjoy scones with jam and cream. 😋. I’m living the dream in the Algarve but it’s met a few hiccups since that darn virus came along. No restrictions on cake though 😉🍰🍩💕

  4. I love custard donuts so this would be a hard choice but I think it would have to be the other one, it looks so deliciously moist and chocolatey 🙂

      1. It’s a subject that gets me quite upset. I have flights booked for my youngest at the end of July but I hear so much conflicting advice that I have no idea if it can or will actually happen. 😔💕
