There can be few nicer hostesses than Su, so when she offers Tea time in the blogosphere it’s hard to refuse. I’ll be a little more restrained this time, because I was definitely over the top last month. I’m a big fan of carob and orange cake, nor do I mind the odd custard donut. Perhaps you’d like to join me? Oh, how very rude! I seem to’ve started without you…. I’ll get it right next month- I promise!
I’d love to join you! Cake not company being the incentive of course!!!!

Well, of course! I knew I should have bought more… but we’d eat it! 😦 😦 You ok, lovely?

Orange and carob — sounds divine and looks deliciously gooey. I just had to Google your book; it sounds fascinating. Would you recommend?

I would, Su! I came by it in a job lot of books from a friend when the local libraries closed. My other half is a much faster reader than me, and I get distracted by other stuff. I found this slow to start with but it’s great subject matter in a period of history that you can’t help but be moved by. I took some photos, originally, for the other Sue’s Cup of coffee and a book series, and this is one I didn’t use. 🙂 🙂

Thank you. It looked interesting, and you are right, it’s an important and fascinating period in history.

Careful Jo when you offer me a slice of Jo, I slice my cake THICK and that carob and orange cakes looks tempting ♥ I didn’t get the memo we were doing this monthly but I did have cake yesterday. My dear wife made rhubarb and cranberry cake with a cinnamon sugar topping. I love it when the cake crust is a bit crunchy. I confess Jo I had too much cake yesterday, so I will behave better today, just my usual hobbit meals in the morning. you know about those? – David

Not at all, David? I’m not on close terms with any hobbits. The rhubarb and cranberry sounds wonderful. You’ll have to get the missus to make some for next month. It’s around the 13/14th of the month. 😋🍩🍰💕

Hobbits like regular meals. First breakfast, second breakfast, Elevenses, and so on.

My high-flying niece (works in American bank in London for humongous salary) has a friend who has just started baking and delivering cakes etc. and yesterday I received in the post an Afternoon Tea Set. This inlcuded scones, butter, jam, cream and proper tea – leaves not bags. It was a lovely surprise and I’m hoping the friend makes a go of it, but I imagine in the circles they move in it will. She would starve in my area trying to make a living like this.
Sent from my new site, still struggling to get the old one fixed.

Scones with jam and cream are one of those things I sacrificed coming here, Mari. Love them! Such a nice gift 😋🍰🍩❤️

Oh, orange cake is something magical, indeed. I got familiar with orange-things (jam, orange-black-tea, cakes) I think back in the year 2006 when I visited UK first time in my life. And the first and second English experiences of taste and life I had in Devon. Three years ago I moved to Devon, Exeter. Now I am living in Cornwall and fulfilling my dreams. Month ago I sent a little (the littlest actually) jar of orange marmalade to my 89 year old granny, and she, adoring this tea-spoon of sunny-taste, kept it weeks on the table, just to look at it and wait to taste, so the pleasure lasts longer. #orange

I was just sorting my postcard collection and it’s 50 years since I was in Cornwall! But I still enjoy scones with jam and cream. 😋. I’m living the dream in the Algarve but it’s met a few hiccups since that darn virus came along. No restrictions on cake though 😉🍰🍩💕

I love custard donuts so this would be a hard choice but I think it would have to be the other one, it looks so deliciously moist and chocolatey 🙂

I don’t at all mind that you’ve eaten the doughnut – not a fan. But please leave a small piece of the carob case for me. Or failing that, the recipe?

So sorry, Margaret! I was in a hurry this morning. Don’t know why because it’s too wet to go far just yet. Recipe???? I can take you to the cake shop 🙂 🙂

I know. I can’t imagine seeing my Barcelona daughter any time soon. But then even the English lot are fairly unavailable. It’s tough Jo.
