Loving Christmas time in the Algarve
I’ve been seriously neglecting Becky’s Square challenge this month, but time marches on and it’s almost time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
I’ve seen Aldeia dos Sonhos (the children’s Village of Dreams) in LoulΓ©, a tree made of recycled plastics in SΓ£o BrΓ‘s de Alportel, and one decorated with firemen’s boots in Faro.Β I’ve hunted down PresΓ©pios (Nativity scenes) in towns and villages all across the Algarve.
Perhaps I’m biased but I do think that Tavira’s lights are the best I’ve seen.Β Square, or not so square, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
Wishing you all the joy of the festive season.Β And let’s hope the year ahead is kind.Β I will be whizzing around the UK, so no Monday walk for me next week.Β But I’ll be home in the Algarve for New Year.Β Hope to see you then.Β Meantime, don’t miss Debbie’s beautifulΒ six words.

Wonderful Christmassy scenes, Jo. Thanks for showing us Christmas in your new country. π xx

I think you’ve excelled yourself this week Jo, and what a change to have man-made images instead of your usual wonderful landscapes. My Portuguese friend was in tears when I showed her your pictures, she came all over nostalgic for home!
Have a very Happy New Year wherever you may spend it, and I look forward to your blog offerings in 2019.

Y’know I remember very few times in my life when time dragged…. perhaps that time when I had jury duty, or some classes back when I was in school. These last years, I’ve relished living next to the woods and nature, It’s something I yearned for many, many years.
Wishing you a joy-filled life and great health as you settle into your new sense of place. Judging by your photos, it’s very lovely indeed!

I love the simplicity and curves of the first image. I think I might understand your nervousness about going back. When I left Broken Hill it was a long time before I felt easy about going back, and I know Ro was nervous when she came back to Australia for the first time after settling in Poland. Her fear, unnecessary as it turned out, was that she wouldnβt want to go back to Warsaw. Not much fear of that for you. Enjoy the season, my dear friend, and the whole of your rich life. Iβm glad youβve reconnected with Tβai chi. Sounds like a great venue.

We were in a park with running water, Meg. An added dimension and a very gentle, lovely man leading the group. π π It will be lovely to see the young uns again. It’s a real treat to see both of them at Christmas. Never happens! Thanks, darlin, and I know you will be thriving in the midst of your mob. π π Good health and peace of mind in the new year!

Lovely sparkly lights here Jo. I cannot get my head around snow scenes in Portugal though (and someone really should tell them that Penguins and Polar bears do not both come from the same region). I don’t envy you travelling over Christmas and I hope it all goes well. No good telling you to have a lovely relaxing time as I know you do not ever do relaxing! More likely to be bog snorkelling!

It’s the first time I’ve been to LoulΓ© at Christmas, and I was quite surprised, Jude. A tiny ice rink too, and the youngsters thought it was great. I am feeling surprisingly nervous about coming back for Christmas. It’s quite strange! We met a lovely man, who teaches t’ai chi, at the winter solstice party yesterday and I went to a session in a nearby park this morning. Listening to the sound of the waves by the beach this afternoon. It feels more like home all the time. π π We were expecting our next door neighbour on Thursday but she hasn’t made it. Fallen foul of Gatwick, I imagine. Have yourself a merry little Christmas, hon. I shall raise a glass to you at some point on the Day. π
