I love this shot. It was a balmy day earlier this month, on the beach at Seaton Carew. Who’s in charge- man or dog? I’m not entirely sure that I wanted to convert it to black and white. But then, I usually feel like that about photos. What do you think?
I don’t usually do the Black and White Sunday challenge, but Paula made this one so easy, even I could join in. Backwards, of course.
I’m posting this just before I disappear off to Edinburgh for a day or two, so apologies if I’m slow with responses. I’ll be back on Saturday.

Im no photographer, but I think the black & white picture conveys stillness and introspection. The colored photo conveys time; more like the passing of time. These are just my opinions. The photos are beautiful however.

I love this picture! Although I’m a big fan of b/w photography, I think I prefer the color version.

I’m never too sure of black and white in nature shots. This photo has great light, subject and atmosphere, so it works both ways. It’s still warmer in colour though, I wonder about sepia? Whichever, it’s gorgeous!

Yes maybe Gilly. I went for the quick option because I was pretty sure I’d like the colour best. Thanks darlin xxx

I prefer the color photograph, Jo. There is enough contrast and the right amount of tones to make this a fantastic photo! The difference with the B&W is small, but I love the blue sky, creating the perfect amount of light. Have fun in Edinburgh. I am looking forward to reading about your adventures there!

If I’d been shown only the black and white photo I’d have thought it was wonderful – but I think the colour one is even more wonderful! 🙂

The image reminds me of the Antony Gormley statues on the beach, and that alone makes me like it. I prefer the colour version, it seems ‘right’ for this particular image, the black and white makes is too harsh.

That’s an interesting reference. I like the soft warm colours myself xx

This was a perfect shot to convert to black and white, although with B&W the scene seems cold rather than balmy. I love them both..

For me it’s the softness of colour I like. Thanks Ann xx

Usually I tend to be attracted more by B&W versions than by colored ones, but in this case I give my vote to those delicate, shy, romantic colours in the first photo!

I’m very glad you did this, and I would like to encourage you to do more B&W edits. This time I prefer the monochrome one. Thanks, Jo!

You don’t? Really? I honestly much prefer this in colour. I don’t care about the technical aspects. For me it’s about the emotions xxx

Interesting. For me B&W usually convey emotion better. Colour creates mood. But you know that it is all highly subjective and relative. In any case, if you are not comfortable with monochrome, you should not do it.

Sitting in the car waiting for the Middle Son to arrive on the school bus and had time to scan other comments and….. YOU’RE MEETING JUDE TOMORROW?? Ooh, you’re so lucky! (Well, you both are really. 🙂 ) Give her a big G’day from me!

The monochrome for me, Jo…you have some strong elements and lots of negative space in this image which are not so powerful in the colour shot. I’m going to be picky now….if you had changed your POV just a little, the posts in the distance could have been separate from the man’s head….or you could just clone a couple of them out…. But great shot!

The windmills? They’re almost invisible Sue. Or am I being short sighted? Be as picky as you like xx

Oh, it’s a wind farm… But they are noticeable in the monochrome image… But anyway, I mus tn’t be picky..
