Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku!

Happy New Year!

Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku

I seem to have neglected my Polish friends lately.  I subscribe to a Polish Language blog, courtesy of my lovely Australian friend, Meg (who has twin half-Polish grandchildren).  I hope they won’t mind if I share with you a snippet from yesterday’s post.

Niech Nowy Rok zabłyśnie dla Was tęczy kolorami
I rozsypie się nad głowami szczęście i uśmiechów moc
I niech zostanie na 12 miesięcy z Wami
Nie tylko w tę Sylwestrową noc.

May the New Year shine for you in rainbow colors
And may happiness and the power of smiles scatter over your heads
And let it stay for 12 months with you
Not only on New Year’s Eve.

Such an international world we now live in!  I’ll leave you with a few fireworks from Sydney- arguably the best display in the world. I’m looking forward to seeing the London spectacular tonight.

From our house to yours, wishing you all a healthy, happy New Year, full of love.

  1. Hi Jo, Thanks for including the Sydney fireworks display…it’s the first time I have seen it this year. Usually one network covers Sydney, the other Melbourne. Not so this year year.

  2. Happy Tomorrows, Girlfriend!!! To you and your loved ones and I hope of all my heart that 2016 will be gentle to you all. I hope that 2016 will give us a chance for to have a date again.

  3. What wonderful words! Those will certainly stick with me as I navigate my way through 2016, And that video of SYDNYE captures the event perfectly! May your 2016 be filled with Peace, Joy, and Love.

  4. Changing the video sounds like too much trouble. Leave it as a test to see who is paying attention.

Oh, we saw Star Wars a few days ago and I had the same reaction. What I loved best was how, the minute it started, it felt like Star Wars. I read later that Lucas deliberately filmed it with minimal cgi and used real locations and models etc instead so it would have the same look as the original movies.
Ribs are good. Collapsed lung has completely recovered. Still some way to go (not driving yet) but I’m sleeping in bed at last. 🙂

  5. Love the Polish blessing. But I’m confused by the label on that video. How could it be highlights of the 2016 Sydney fireworks when they hadn’t even had them at the time of you posting? Besides, I’ve now seen the 2016 fireworks and they didn’t look like that. 😛

I don’t mind fireworks but I think they’ve got out of hand. Last night’s ones from Sydney went on twice as long as my attention wanted them to. Couldn’t help thinking they could cut the budget by half, still have a spectacular (but shorter) display and use the rest of the money for something more substantial.

Happy New Year to you, Jo! 🙂

    1. I agree on all counts, H 🙂 There – I’ve started the New Year being agreeable. Let’s see if I can last a day 🙂 🙂
Having very little sense of time, I went looking for your fireworks a few hours before they were due. I used the video knowing it was last year’s footage, but it was a good show. I suppose I could now substitute this year’s video, but most people who are going to do so have already seen my post (and I love to confuse an Aussie or two 🙂 What was I saying about being nice?) And yes, Jude made the same point- how many hungry kids could it feed? We are one mixed up crazy world! Last night in Europe many would have been fearful at attending such a gathering. The ‘what ifs’ are like a movie thriller trailer. And ending on a happy note- I went to see Star Wars last night and I LOVED it! Happy New Year, sweetheart 🙂 How are the ribs?

      1. Thanks for making my morning with your comment in my post – huge joy you sent my way and truly the best way to start the new year! So here is to one awesome year!! 😎😎😎

  6. Let the happiness stay for twelve months and way beyond darling, what a lovely poem. When are you off to Poland next, I hope not in winter? I wonder if you are in London or planning on watching the fireworks on tv? Either way enjoy, it will be Jools Holland for me and I’ll raise a glass to you and have a little sip of something if I can stay awake, but I’m such a wuss.
Anyway, warm loving hugs to you for New Year and 2016 is definitely the year to meet even if just for a day out x ❤ x

    1. London would be exciting but I’m at home, Gilly. 🙂 We finally got to see the Star Wars movie and I loved it! Nice end to the year 🙂 Just cooked spag bol with lots of wine in and settling down to answer ‘you lot’ 🙂 🙂 🙂 Yes, it would be nice if we could make it happen.
Maybe Easter for a wedding, or otherwise in May. Dad thinks it may be his last trip over there which will be sad. He’s 88 soon! Yes, I’ll raise a glass to you, hon. Jools for us too.

  7. “From our house to yours…” how lovely is that? I love seeing the fireworks, BUT (and maybe it is an age thing) I’d really love it more if one city in the world would say, no, this year the money we would spend on fireworks will go to feeding hungry children and building wells for clean water. It upsets me to think of all the money just set on fire, when we still have children dying because they don’t have the bare necessities in life. I don’t suppose I can change the world, but I hope that everyone can be a little less selfish in the year to come and realise that we are all in it together (as those communities in the flooded homes have done). Rant over!

I wish you all the best for the coming year and thank you for being such a good friend. Maybe this is the year to finally meet? And do one of those walks together!
    Jude xx

    1. Rant on! I’m on your side 🙂 🙂 Yes, we’ll have to try and make it happen this year. Gilly’s up for it 🙂 When you’ve finished designing/organising your new garden of course 🙂 You never did tell me how much garden you will have and how much work it needs.
      Happy 2016, Jude 🙂

      1. Small garden and fairly mature in a wild sort of way. I shall leave it be the first year to see what is growing, but I fancy some Australian/South African/New Zealand planting eventually. So… let’s get planning 🙂

  8. Lovely words there Jo . Wishing you a really humdinger of a New year ! I was up early trying for some dawn shots but no luck , so not sure I’ll see the 12 bongs in 🙂 Looking forward to those rushing waters you’ve seen recently .

    1. Monday week because this Monday is a garden for Jude 🙂 Yesterday was a crazy dawn! Huge rolling grey clouds with flashes of angry red through them. No way I could have got the shot 🙂 Have a good slumber! It’ll be New Year all day tomorrow. 🙂

  9. And a very Happy New Year to you Jo, very much hope to meet up with you and Michael again in 2016. Our fireworks tonight are going to be opposite the apartment, and we might even see Faro’s over the rooftops!

  10. I won’t be watching any real fireworks tonight. Probably be in bed before 9 PM. So thanks for the video.
A nice new year’s poem. Meaningful no matter what language we speak. Happy New Year to you. 🙂

  11. Lovely poem, such heart warming words. But I am confused about the Sydney fireworks???? It is 9-39pm here and the fireworks have not gone off yet!!! was that a 2015 youtube? They certainly are the best in the world. Best wishes to you Jo and hope 2016 brings you lots of joy

    1. I aim to confuse, Pauline 🙂 I can never remember the exact time differences. I Googled youTube this morning and picked this vid. It’s footage from last year, of course. A more recent one was the Daily Star article but it was full of adverts 🙂 Another blessed and happy year to you both!

      1. Ahhh that explains it…. I’m sure this years were just as spectacular. (we do not have TV so didn’t see them and I was in bed fast asleep at midnight)

  13. That is such a beautiful New Year’s wish Jo and I love those little lamps. Adorable! 😀

The fireworks display is beautiful. A good organized and safe display of fireworks is something well worth watching, especially when it’s far away from wildlife and pets. Still not my favourite though. I’d rather give that money to animal shelters.

Be safe and well darling and wishing you just the best for 2016. 😀 ♥

  14. What a beautiful message from your Polish song – ‘May the New Year shine for you in rainbow colors / And may happiness and the power of smiles scatter over your heads’. I wish Jo likewise, a scattering of joy and peace for today and all days of the New Year. Warmest wishes to you and yours.

    1. Thank you, Annika 🙂 It’s lovely, isn’t it? I had no idea what I was going to post this week, but this seemed to fit the bill very nicely. Very best wishes back to you! 🙂
