Backlit

Capturing fading light seems to have been one of my preoccupations on my recent trip to the Algarve.  I always have difficulty keeping these things to myself, so I was happy when Paula requested Backlit images on Thursday’s Special.

Fronds of palm, backlit

Shadows creeping silently

Whispering of night

A strong subject in the foreground is what’s required, so I’ve included the one above, which I don’t like so much, and a couple of fishermen, taken much earlier in the day.  I rather like the fishermen.  They were much too busy to notice me.

As always, Paula does it with style and a very special Thursday photo.  My lovely friend Gilly is always here on a Thursday, too- her Lazy Poet’s haiku is simply too good to miss.

I really shouldn’t be loitering here because I’ve still much to do. See you!

  1. Lovely soft light Jo and a pretty haiku to boot 🙂 And what a delight to see the sun glitter on the sea in your fishermen shot. Now away with you, get on with the chores if you must 😀

    1. True confessions- I spent the afternoon in a very nice restaurant with a friend. How does white chocolate and cranberry bread and butter pudding with brandy and orange sauce sound to you? 🙂

      1. Oh, stop it! I have been drooling all week over James Martin’s puddings on the TV and then there was Mary Berry, now this! Torture! I try to avoid desserts, but oh this sounds delectable… (the pounds are piling on my hips as I read this)

    2. I don’t do dessert often but when I do…. 🙂 Girl’s night tomorrow- more eating- and one more lunch outing next Tuesday then it’s all cooking and pot washing 😦 How are you doing, playing at hermit?

      1. I’m a very happy hermit 🙂 Reading, planning the move (which is looking more likely now), thinking of new photo challenges (of a personal nature). We are going to visit family after Christmas which will be nice, we stay in a hotel so can get some peace! And no cooking or washing pots!

      2. Is this the Polish family from Poland or the ones in Norfolk? At least you have a bit of a break before you start cooking again – my advice is to teach that son of yours, mine are all wonderful chefs and I don’t have to lift a finger when visiting them 🙂

    1. Ann! I was just thinking of you yesterday but didn’t have enough of that elusive time stuff to seek you out. 🙂 Hope all is good? I’ve added some haiku since you were here (composed as I scurried to the hairdresser!) and a link to Gilly 🙂

      1. We place a lot of expectations on Christmas. Truth is it will have the good and the not so good, just like any other day. And, like any other day, we wish for the good to prevail. 🙂 Christmas blessings to you.

    1. I had an email from my friend in our street yesterday, Becky, so I know it’s still shorts weather. 🙂 Strangely enough it’s extremely mild here too, but who has time to notice with Christmas so near. I’m all of a scurry! 🙂 Thank you!

      1. While I prepare the veg 🙂 Had a lovely lunch hour today with a friend from my former Polish class. White chocolate and cranberry bread and butter pudding, with brandy and orange sauce, no less! 🙂 Have a super time, Becky and I’ll look forward to seeing you on a future trip.

    1. I’ve ‘doctored’ it since you were here, Viv 🙂 I saw Gilly’s Lazy Poet’s haiku, which is beautiful, and as I scurried down the road to the hairdresser I jiggled with a few words (as you do 🙂 ) Phew! It’s all go! Hope you’ve resolved problems from the weekend?

      1. No, haven’t seen that one or the pottery one. There are too many challenge programmes on TV but I only really like the Bake Off!
I liked your pictures though, I could almost see the Fighting Temeraire in that first one!

  2. Jo, you made fantastic pictures, I am looking and wonder how beautiful the scenery! I like fishermen, they do what they need to do!

    1. I took a sequence of the sunset and I’m crazy about a few of them. (some don’t have an entirely straight horizon so I won’t show them, and I’m too pigheaded to adjust them in processing) Mick made a derogatory comment about the palm shot and I guess it stuck 😦

      1. Hubby? What did he say? You can let me know by email. Send the shots to me if you’d like Jo. I’ll straighten them up for you 🙂

      2. No, thanks Paula. 🙂 🙂 Like I said, pig-headed. The slightly ‘off’ ones remind me to try harder next time. They’re not ‘out’ by much. But thank you for the offer 🙂
