Naturally, I walked.  I’ll take you inside the Barbikan later ….

Spring (Wiosna) had definitely arrived

I might just have saved the best till last… my cousin Jadwiga (Jadzia) with her grandaughter, and our cousin Marta- soon to be a grandma too.

And a new family member- meet Nadia!

Meet Nadia!  A joyful addition to our Polish family

There are stories to tell, and my head is still half full of Polish, but for now, I’m home again.  I brought with me a wedding invitation for September, so I think that I’ll be back.

Time to settle into a routine, at least for a little while.  Hope you enjoyed the preview of what’s to come, and that you have a happy weekend.  It’s grey and damp outside, but I don’t even mind. I’ve put some more washing in, and visited Cate at Show My Face with my six words.  Zumba soon, and a little later there’ll be Rafa to look forward to.

See you on Monday?  Who knows where we’ll be walking to….  Till then, have fun!

  1. I think that those eggs are Easter eggs. In Finland it is habit to make them also. When seeing them I thought at first also Fabergé eggs. I am very glad that You presented this post.

  3. Lovely to have you back home Jo, enjoyed this ‘preview’ of more to come with your beautiful photos. I was really drawn to the lighting in the cafe, very olde worlde, my kind of place 🙂 Lovely, happy family photo and of course adore those spring blossoms. And you’ll definitely be going back in September 😉

    1. Hi Sherri 🙂 Hope you had a lovely time with Mum. That cafe was rather lovely for one so small. There was a Polish family with 4 youngsters sharing one big icecream sundae and games of chess and books on a side table to entertain them. The ‘snug’ had a roaring fire but the 3 tables were all taken. 😦 The place had such a nice atmosphere and the 2 girls running it worked hard, and smiled at everyone.
      Yes, I think I will- but just for a few days. Thanks, darlin’ 🙂

      1. A wonderful time thanks Jo, hoping to share about it as soon as possible! Oh Jo, I just knew that Cafe was like that the minute I saw your photo…I can envisage it now, it sounds absolutely delightful. Maybe you can go back in September and get a table then… 🙂

  5. Jo, did you stay in Krakow???? I wouldn’t mess with that lion … showing his teeth like that. And the cherry blossoms and magnolia, so beautiful. Love when you catch details long your way, like the crockery and the eggs. Wouldn’t mind an egg like that.
    What a happy baby …. and pink of course. It’s you holding her???

    1. Shopping heaven for you in the Sukiennice, Vivi! 🙂 We stayed at Adam’s (my baker cousin) in the Krakow outskirts for 4 nights then travelled up to Belchatow, the family home. Dad stayed there playing dominos with Uncle Jakub between whisking around the family to various meals. I returned to Krakow for my flight home but Dad’s not back till this Thursday. And no- that’s not me holding Nadia 🙂 It’s my cousin Jadzia. There’s a strong family resemblance though, She’s a very lovely lady. i stayed at her home in Belchatow.
      All well with you, Vivi? I’m still trying to find ‘normal’ again 🙂 🙂

      1. Yes, you look alike … what a fantastic trip you had … reading your comment I wish I had some connection with my family tree over there, can’t even remember my dad, but that is the way it’s. I started looking for him many many years ago .. and I came so fare that I know he was married with 3 daughters, then I stopped.
        It’s wasn’t only about him and me then.
        Jo, thanks … I’m okay – had a wet but great day with my friend Iris yesterday in Helsingborg … great food and a bit of culture. Plus a new leather jacket. *smile

    2. It;s been an amazing experience, Vivi, but it’s very strange when you step from a tiny family into an enormous one, and you don’t speak the language. A part of me is a very quiet person and I like my own company. It’s barely possible in Poland. Different if I lived there, of course. How did you manage with your Japanese? Did you need to use it much, and were you understood? 🙂

      1. Oh, I manage very well with the few phrases I know and they loved it .. and I bow all the time too. I even took on the customs for visiting the shrines, clapping hands and bowing … plus washing hands before entering and give a 50 yen coin away.
        If my father would have liked contact with me (he lives in Sweden) he could have easily found me and his family maybe don’t know anything about me. Can cause so much problems. My half brother looked up mum … and that didn’t go very well for us. So some stones is better not to turn.

  8. Jo – I swooned right to the ground under those gorgeous magnolia blossoms. They are so fragile if a wind blast comes up; on the other hand lying beneath while petals flutter around me is like a day spent in Heaven before my time!!

      1. So true, Jo. The green in our foothills is breathtaking in its liveliness – our moisture is fleeting so I accept the clouds as the tradeoff for a couple weeks if Emerald Isle-ness.

    1. There’s a newer addition yet, Pauline 🙂 One month old and living in Reading in the UK. Jadzia is desperate to see her new grandaughter and hopes they will visit in June. Round about then Weronika will give birth to her first child and Marta’s first grandchild. The family grows and grows. I was at Weronika’s wedding in May last year. 🙂
      The lion sits in a very busy spot by the TI in the Rynek. No wonder he looks bemused 🙂 Thanks, hon.

  18. Missed you, and it is so nice to see you back here, I love the lion! I see you are showing off you new Polish words (and why not) I am impressed! I once took an evening course in Russian and I loved it, but can’t remember very much now apart from ‘Spaseeba’ (thank you) and ‘Da sveedaneeya’ (goodbye). Learning the Cyrillic alphabet was hard.

    I had a couple of Polish students in my tutor group when I was teaching, thank goodness they learned English quickly, though I always said “dzień dobry” at morning registration which made them smile (probably at my atrocious accent)

    Lovely pink spring flowers and a pretty colour co-ordinated baby too. Sounds like you had a delightful trip Jo. Can’t wait to hear more…

    1. Hi, Jude! 🙂 I took 2 lion shots and they look like completely different creatures. Me and my camera skills 😦 But I liked this guy. I did know the Polish in here prior to this trip, but remembering them in an appropriate situation (and understanding the question) is my problem. It was certainly an interesting trip and I had brain ache by the end of it. Thank you 🙂
