Six word Saturday

Burning the candle at both ends?

But such a pretty one!

But such a pretty one!

My Christmas season has started already, with a dinner party and a zumba one!  Barely just got the energy to post Six word Saturday, so here are a few restful images from the Algarve.

A few quiet images are called for

Peace and quiet at the Carmo Church

Stranded on the beach

Gently stranded on the shore

Admiring the glint

Admiring that last glint

As the sun goes down

As the sun goes down

Maybe a stroll in the Praca

The first hints at an Algarve Christmas

A beautiful house sign

And a wise owl

And a wise old owl, for Gemma

I haven’t posted in the week because I’ve been having conversations with Margaret-Rose Stringer about the best way to load an image to WordPress.  I’m still not sure that I have it right, but you can read M-R’s thoughts here.

Now, where shall I take you walking on Monday?  That’s my next decision.  Meantime, have a great weekend and don’t forget to pop in on Cate at Show My Face.

  1. Burning the candle at both ends perfectly captures the mad rush of the season. I picked up my first few presents last night and I’m a bit overwhelmed thinking of how much more I have to do to prepare for the holidays–both at home and at work.

PS–I adore the local art and decorations in this post!

    1. I’ve got Dad’s but that’s all. I love the giving and the lovely atmosphere of Christmas but why do we have to make the build up so hyper? I’m really not a shopper and Black Friday makes me cringe. Far rather go for a walk on that beach 🙂 Thanks a lot!

    1. Sounds like a nice way to spend an afternoon, Elaine, even though you’ll be ready to put your feet up now. Not long till ‘Strictly’. 🙂
I think he just wanted to get off the shelf in the pottery shop!

  2. Jo good for you to try to maintain some calm in this season. I am striving for that as well, to enjoy the time rather than run around like a chicken with my head cut off. Do you use that saying in the UK?
I’m no tech expert that’s for sure but one thing i have learned with blogging and all the social media is not to get bogged down with all of the details. Then I lose my creativity and the fun of why I started in the first place. Bit buy bit I am getting it figured out. Hugs from me to you. 🙂

    1. Yes, we have headless chickens, Sue, as well as those on the dinner table 🙂
Thanks for the kind words, Sue. I did find myself very discouraged, though I know M-R meant nothing but good. There was me, thinking I had a half decent blog 😦 But you’re right- best just to enjoy it for what it is. We can’t all of us be tech genii??? Now that looks strange- something from Aladdin? Perhaps I meant geniuses 🙂 Can’t help being a ‘numpty’. Are you familiar with that English expression. I love our cultural exchanges 🙂 🙂 (translate=idiot)

      1. Jo aren’t we hard on ourselves! I know if I get one unfavorable comment it seems that is what sticks in my head despite the hundreds of positive ones. You have an amazing blog and last I checked it had some outrageous amount of followers. I honestly didn’t know what M-R meant . My photos apparently enlarge but i have no idea why or how .
Nope never heard of a numpty….

Techie stuff is so D ***** frustrating at times . Mostly hit and miss for me with some stuff . If I remember how to do it one day the next time it’s gone . Yes gone … where to I’ve no idea . Still I keep plugging and puggling along 🙂

  4. Love the joyful spirit shining beautifully in your post my friend. My Christmas spirit started the moment I put up our tree 2 weeks ago. Yes, that advance. In America, many put up their tree after Thanksgiving but knowing how happy Christmas makes my son feel and how fast time flues by, I hope to hold and embrace the Christmas Joy for as long as I can. Thanks for sharing these beautiful, festive, exciting images…Christmas truly feels close. God bless you and your family.

  5. I always try hard to hide out for The Holidays, but I inevitably fail because the “revelers” INSIST on including EVERYONE whether they like it or not.

    1. Hi Marion 🙂 I hope your presence here means that you’ve solved a few of the health issues.
Quiet afternoon with the laptop, and ‘Strictly’ tonight should sort me out 🙂 Thanks a lot!

      1. Alas no, Jo. The MRI scan and the balance check showed there’s nothing dangerous going on, everything is OK. I’m thrilled with the outcome, but my problems didn’t get any less. Typing and posting still make me nauseated and sick, but I get so frustrated by not being able to write, that I’m trying anyway. But I’m going out for a walk in the sun now.

The next step in my treatment is physiotherapy, perhaps something in my neck is blocked.

Enjoy your laptop afternoon and your Strictly evening *hugs*

  6. Like you Jo, I upload photos straight from the post mainly because it’s easier. I rarely click on photos for bigger versions and yours are plenty large enough I find. It’s a matter of preference. Ages ago I was advised to downsize them (ie to 1000 or less) as larger photos are easier to swipe and fiddle with, I seem to remember it doesn’t bother you, but it does bother some of us. Plus, being impatient, clicking on a photo to find it is a humongous file and takes ages to load has me clicking back off within two ticks, or two clicks even. Having larger photos also eats up your wordpress photo capacity. As I say, it’s a personal choice.
I did click on the owl out of interest, looked the same size to me.

    1. I load mine full size anyway, Kate, so I don’t really see the advantage, but it was easy enough to effect the change, once I understood the problem. I’ve been surprised at how well my photo capacity has lasted on WP. I thought I’d have had to buy more or start a new blog by now, but I still have a little leeway. 🙂

      1. Nope, yours are not coming up full screen for me (using iPad). If you look at my last post, check out 1) the photo of EJ Simon, click on that, comes up full screen. If you look at the following two pix in gallery format, click on those, comes up in gallery, option below to see full screen image.

  7. Some restful images Jo….and as I, too, would like Christmas to hold off for a bit they are a welcome note of calm. Looking forward to my virtual walk with you on Monday! Have a great weekend – I’m just off to my poetry group 😀

      1. Long may your oasis of calm last! It was great to meet my poetry friends again … Life has been a bit of a challenge this year and I have hardly written anything myself, but it’s still good to hear the work of others. Perhaps next year I’ll get back into it….

  8. Oh and I’ve just realised you’ve included a link to my blog in your community section at the the side of your blog (I saw my photo there)! Thanks so much for your support of my blog it’s a lovely part of blogging “meeting” new people and making connections and I really appreciate the interaction and encouragement! I’m working on my own blog roll in between other posts as I think they’re a great idea! 🙂

    1. WordPress do make it easy, don’t you think? It’s just a click in the Settings and everyone who comes to your blog appears in the sidebar. You’re very welcome. Yours is such a cheerful presence to have around. 🙂
Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

      1. Thanks Jo! 🙂 I do like WordPress as they do provide good templates to set things up! We don’t actually celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia though I have American friends who live here who celebrate it with the traditonal turkey and all the trimmings! Australia Day is the main national holiday and that is celebrated each year on 26th January. As it’s the height of the summer people hold barbecues with family and friends. Here in Perth there is an annual Australia Day fireworks event down by the Swan River in the centre of the city which is spectacular! 🙂

    2. Sorry Rosemay! When I’m answering comments I often forget which bit of the globe people are in. Australia Day sounds fabulous. Now, how can I get there? 🙂 May have to be virtual, as usual 😦

      1. That’s quite alright Jo you are so good to reply to everyone and you could hardly be expected to remember where everyone comes from! If you ever get the chance come to Australia it’s a fabulous place! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Richard 🙂 I’ve taken a few shots with the phone but sharing instantly doesn’t come naturally to me. I like to upload things and look at them on the laptop first. Not quite the concept, is it? I’m a bit nervous of appearing a total clutz! 🙂

  9. Beautiful photos Jo and yes the Christmas season seems to have started already (the shops here have had their decorations up for weeks now which personally I think is ridiculous!). Monday is the start of December though, when I start to panic – I invariably miss the last posting date to the Uk but most things still get through in time! Have a lovely weekend 🙂

    1. Thanks Rosemay 🙂 I don’t usually start shopping till December, but I don’t have a lot of presents to buy. I do love the atmosphere in the shops but not the tacky Black Friday pushing and shoving.

      1. I kept seeing all these ads for Black Friday and had no idea what it was but it was obviously linked to shopping discounts! I do a lot of my overseas shopping online as it saves postage costs which are otherwise very high!
