A fun day at the beach
Hartlepool council have organised Seaton Celebrates , to mark the completion of major sea defence work and the extended promenade at Seaton Carew. Activities are to include sand sculpture workshops. Well, there’s no shortage of sand on our beach! Which is just as well, because world champion sculptress Nicola Wood will be creating a large scale sculpture.
I’m hoping it will be on a par with the amazing themed sculptures which feature each year at the FIESA festival in the Algarve. To be fair, they have a whole team working on them. We are also promised a roller skating display, and street theatre, which will include sea creatures and a mermaid. There’ll be nautically themed craft stalls and the singing of sea shanties too.
How do I know this? The White Crane t’ai chi group (I’m a member) will be giving a demonstration. I expect to be there, camera in hand at least part of the time. It’s on all Saturday afternoon, between 12 and 5pm.
What do you have planned for Saturday? Can you describe it in six words? Pop over to see Cate at Show My Face and see exactly how it should be done. This post is just so Summer, I really think it could find a home in Summer Lovin‘. Don’t you?
I must stop playing with Lunapic. It’s becoming a bad habit! Have a happy Saturday.

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this.

What an energetic bunny you are, Jo! Those sand sculptures are beyond amazing, and can’t even begin to imagine all the artistry and effort that has gone into creating them, not forgetting your own efforts involved in presenting them here in such a matchless fashion. 😀 I’m sure you really enjoyed your afternoon at the beach.

It was superb, Ad! I didn’t get to play with the sand 😦 but doing t’ai chi by the water (and even at times with the feet IN the North Sea) was wonderful.

It actually was a very fun day at the beach, Nicky, if a little exhausting 🙂 The sand sculpture wasn’t up to Algarve standards, but I didn’t think it would be 🙂

Thanks, Tina 🙂 FIESA is a fabulous venue. I haven’t been for a couple of years but will be in the Algarve in September so that might be a good opportunity to go on an evening, when it’s all floodlit.

Hi Jo,
loooooooooooooooooooong time ago I spent a few days in Hartlepool. We were on a sailing trip that should have taken us to Aberdeen and then back to the Netherlands, but due to some unforeseen mishaps Hartlepool was the farthest north we got. We spent 3 days there, next to the RNLI place, repairing our rudder. Those guys were ever so friendly, as were 2 policemen we met on the evening of our arrival, asking them for directions. These two appeared the next morning with breakfast for us! 🙂 We had a wonderful time.
Have a great weekend,
Pit

Hard to believe those are made of sand! Absolutely amazing. Here we are far more familiar with ice sculptures done with chainsaws and chisels. The weather looks far better at your event. 🙂

Hi Sue 🙂 I’m shattered! Zumba this morning then the beach event, but it was actually warm enough to do some t’ai chi with our toes in the North Sea!
The FIESA festival in the Algarve is great. I haven’t been since 2010 but I might just go when we’re in the Algarve in September. It’s floodlit on an evening and I haven’t seen that yet 🙂

Too exhausted to argue. It’s been a full-on day, rounded off with t’ai chi and the North Sea lapping our toes! It actually was very pleasant.

Not that I’m knocking your talent of course – it is after all YOUR blog and you can play around on it as much as you like – take no notice of all us grumpy old women – it’s the heat!! And talking of which, even the North Sea sounds wonderful today – I must be living in the county furthest away from the coast …sigh.

It’s fair comment, Jude. I find some of the effects a little hard to live with too, but I thought the pixilated one was wonderfully appropriate for a sand sculpture. The sparkly stuff in the bath did my head in 🙂
It was lovely here today. Much needed because we’ve had our Hartlepool’s personal cloud in place the last few days.

Nothing wrong in trying something different. It would be very boring if we didn’t. But I actually love your ‘normal’ photos. You have a good eye. Been very hot here today again, though cloudy. A spit of rain, but then it disappeared.
