Did I tell you about Girona?

Striking, isn’t it?
My day trip from Barcelona. There’s a story or two to tell, but as I only have six words, it’ll have to be pictorial. Just click on the gallery.
It’s a city of cobbled streets and arcades,
tall buildings,
a stunning cathedral,
with a majestic location
and cloisters.
It has the sweetest weathervane
and the longest town walls,
with interesting views over the city.
but I wasn’t fond of the bollard that tripped me up!
There are smart cafes,
and interesting architecture.
A table up some steps beckoned to me
In the shade of the lovely buildings I could watch passersby.
Girona in a nutshell. I wanted to come here in May for the flower festival, but it was more peaceful in November, and a wonderful escape from the city.

Beautiful, isn’t it?
I’m playing Six word Saturday, thanks to Cate at Show My Face. Click on the links or the header and you can play too. Happy weekend!

Very beautiful Jo!! Thanks for taking us along.
Can’t believe you are actually sticking to your six word limit….well almost 😀

It was lovely, Madhu. I wasn’t sure if I should sacrifice a day in Barcelona, but beautiful as the city was, I enjoyed getting out into the countryside for a while. 🙂

🙂 I was going to say exactly what Ruthi said, that I love traveling with you through your beautiful photos and descriptions! I feel as though I have really been there. You do need to watch out for those random bollards popping up though! 🙂

Bollards and stairs have been my downfall lately, Tonya (literally 🙂 ) I always appreciate company and kind words though. Thank you!

I could be seriously tempted too, Jill. The TI was immaculate and I ended up wearing a “necklace” tracking my footprint through the city for a research project (someone would have got seriously dizzy following me 🙂 ) I felt like asking for a job.

I didn’t get to Barcelona when I was in Spain. 😦 How I wish… How I wish… Oh well, I did get to see Sevilla so it’s all right. Those houses look like just cardboard boxes.

I did try leaning on one and it didn’t collapse, so I guess they’re stronger than they look. I need to go back to Sevilla one of these days 🙂

aha, nice to see someone else taking a short trip! I recall buying tickets at Atocha for a quick trip to Toledo and the woman asking me if I was sure because we’d only be there a few hours. Yep, I am sure. we only needed to buy a sword as the sword shop was closed on our previous visit 10 months before. I’ll never forget the look on that woman’s face! and I couldn’t think fast enough in Spanish to explain it to her….he he.

Very striking as seen by you, Jo – thanks for the walk around. Another one to add to the bucket list…

That endless list, Sue! I had the map on my knee on the train and was checking out how close we were to Andorra, and wondering if we could get out to Figueres at the coast 🙂 I’m insatiable (and not at all penitent)

Girona looks lovely through your eyes, Jo. I wish I had made a day trip there from Barcelona! But I was plenty busy; sadly, there just wasn’t enough time. Love your views of the city, the architecture, and that interesting bridge. 🙂

Hi Jo ~~ Girona does look like a very nice place to spend a day while at Barcelona. We were on the A-road driving through and over it on our way to the Carcassonne, France, area a few years ago. We spent four days (five nights) there in France. We did not return that way as we (I) wanted to see Andorra on our way back to Barcelona. We did spend a day and a night at Andorra.
Yes, that’s my vote for you guys to return to Paris. I will have to see if I can get hold of your Cities of Kings book. Use it as a checklist and wish book. The last time we were in Paris was April, 2012, for the Paris Marathon where our London daughter, Karen, ran the Paris Marathon. We were in Auckland last December (2012). There are soooo many pretty places in this world! I am glad you like to travel and read travel. Mrs. Jim reads more travel than I do.
Cheers,
..

I don’t have nearly as much time to read travel as I used, Jim (blame the blog, but I love it 🙂 ) When I looked at how close Andorra was on the map I was sorely tempted, but then, give me a coastline and all I want to do is make my way along it. The Med would be torture because I’d always want to see the next town or village. I enjoyed what I did see 🙂
Paris isn’t decided but it’s a strong possibility. Thanks for your vote, Jim.

It’s my first time in this part of Spain, Rich, never having done Lloret or Tossa back in the day. I thought the mountain backdrop was lovely, and it made a very nice contrast to Barcelona. I needed to take my foot off the pedal for a while. Would have liked to get to Figueres too, but you know us SS types 🙂

It is a unusual mix of old and new – which works in some places but not others. the Castle wall must have offered some fine views
