This is a first for me- a single photograph! There is a good reason, as I will be posting more in Six word Saturday tomorrow, but this little mermaid seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The view is of Huntcliff Nab at Saltburn-by-the Sea, another of North Yorkshire’s charming seaside resorts. A tradition has grown up in recent years of festooning available railings with knitting. Last year was, of course, the Royal Jubilee, but I was very taken with this year’s seaside theme, artistically draped along Saltburn pier.
I’ve written about Saltburn before, in a post called Secrets, which gives a little of the area’s history. Meantime, I hope you like my entry for this week’s Daily Post challenge. Huntcliff Nab is beautiful in its own right but I love an Unusual Point of View. Click on the link to view the other entries.
Captivating! Reminds us of the many dreams and adventures close to the sea.

Hi Jo,
This is a great post! My favorite is the mermaid. We have a row of trees not too far from our house that people sometimes dress up late at night, when no one is looking. I think they call it yarn bombing.

There’s a statue in Seattle of a bunch of people waiting at a bus stop, and every winter someone knits them all kinds of new outfits–they have more clothes than most people!

Brilliant! I should go play statue alongside them. My wardrobe needs a boost 🙂

What a lovely idea, covering railings with knitting. It seems very British somehow.

They were in need of a coat of paint, Lorna (constantly!) so it’s a good British solution 🙂 A lot of fun, too! Thanks for the tweet 🙂

Funny the names they’re known by in different countries, Madhu, but I think they’re brilliant. That bridge one in Pittsburgh is truly amazing.
