Our English Heritage – walk with me?
Well, the young uns are back at school and, as often happens, we’re enjoying a last glimpse of Summer. Whoo- hoo! Share with me a balmy day in Barnard Castle, Teesdale.

A first peak at the River Tees, sparkling in the sunlight

And cascading over the rocks

I love the power of the water as it slaloms down the river

Around the bend and a hint of castle appears

And then the bridge

Isn’t this how a ruined castle should look?

While the river flows respectfully by

Over the bridge

My favourite shot

Stay close to the river and cross over another bridge

A strange one this, but you can sit in the middle and contemplate

Time to wander back up the High St

Maybe a little window shopping?

Choose between ancient pub and “ye olde tea shoppe”

Who are these little characters?

Back to the bandstand and turn right, signed Bowes

And a chateau awaits, now Bowes Museum

But who is the gargoyle waiting for?

The view from the terraces

The griffin’s spotted something

Much to our surprise, a Bengali wedding is taking place
Heritage of every kind. Hope you enjoyed our little stroll? It was too warm to hurry.
Still sunny today and I’m off to walk across the park to my zumba class. That’ll tire me out for the weekend! Have a good one, won’t you?

Funny diannagrey mentioned fairyland. I was thinking the view from the terrace reminded me of Alice in Wonderland for some reason.
Beautiful trip you took us on. 🙂

Thanks Meg. Now don’t remind me those leaves will soon be falling. But you’re right- it’s sensational in the Autumn.

Thanks Judy. Never been to Plymouth, though I had a good friend who lived there many years ago, so you’re one up on me. Glad of your company.

Hi Jo ~~ I’m ready for some fish and chips today!!! That’s what your pub picture and even mentioning the word ‘pub’ brought to mind. 🙂
You had a nice visit. I also scrolled down to peek in at our last “Z” word post. I enjoyed that. If you scroll down to my Thursday’s blog (last post before today) I have a few of my April Paris visit shots posted. Our London daughter ran the Paris Marathon this year.

My “y” key doesn’t always work. Hence the ‘”our” last …’ brought instead of ‘”your” last …’ mistake.
Other mistakes, not here, like ‘out’ vs. ‘our’ are purely the typist’s mistakes.

Wow- some achievement, Jim. I’m purely a walker.
Mick had the chips- I was good and stayed with brie and salad.

Aah well, Lucy, the sunshine’s gone, but the castle will still be there. I think it will be in the English Heritage site. I should’ve Googled it earlier. They have reenactments and things at Bank Holidays.

A wonderful walk. Flog it was at the Bowes Museum recently and they visited the chateau. I loved that first bridge – quaint construction – but I loved it all!

Thanks Viv. Can’t beat a gentle walk on a Saturday morning (specially if you don’t have to leave the armchair). We weren’t allowed inside the museum as they were setting up for this very posh wedding. Stretch limos and the works, but I liked the colourful costumes best. Didn’t like to publish the shots of the bride- it’s a bit personal isn’t it? Or should be.
