Taking my foot off the pedal
Having motored a bit to reach my 100th post earlier this week, I’ve taken my foot off the pedal, just a little.
The chief reason for this is that I needed some time to plan my upcoming visit to Porto and the Douro valley. I sometimes wish I was one of those “jump in and experience it as it comes” travellers, but I’m not. I’ve looked forward to this trip to the north of Portugal for so long, and I’m desperate to get it right.
Apart from that, I’ve been enjoying everything the English weather can throw at me. And it packs quite a punch.
It was blustery as only an English Bank Holiday can be, but I did enjoy our walk. And another opportunity to play, of course.
Back to my maps and guide books. Hope you’ll be joining me next week on Six word Saturday? Many thanks to Cate, our kind hostess, on Show My Face, where you’ll find all the details of how to play, and this week’s other entries. Click on the button below for more fun.

Ah, I see you have been playing again 🙂 Love the rain effect!

My favourite is the “swirl” but it leaves you with the photo that you didn’t take, if you know what I mean…

It’s good fun, Linda. I’m too twitchy to be good with a camera, but I’m amazed at what you can achieve.

Hi Jo, I am glad you got to enjoy the “Last Summer Bank Holiday.” Had you been there before? It looks quite nice. We have ours, Labor Day (Labour), Monday. It will be BBQ and apple pie for us.

Yes, I’ve been a few times, Jim. It’s just an hour north of us, if that, and a nice stretch of coast. Subject to subsidence and a bit breezy. BBQ weather’s been and gone here- enjoy yours.

Thanks Tilly. I find that there’s an effect that goes well with most things, but then I’m easily entertained.

I thought Marsden Rock/Grotto had collapsed! Or is that the difference between the versions?

Nope, the cliff lift’s still there and a variety of stacks, though there’s a fair bit of subsidence. Don’t like my effects, huh?
It was so wild up that coast on Monday, it’s a wonder we didn’t end up in the sea with the rocks.

I was sure I had read something about it collapsing and a quick internet hunt tells me the arch collapsed in 1996, leaving the stacks. Can’t remember the last time I saw it (or Souter) but the first time was well before 1996 which was why your ‘pretty version’ reminded me of it.
Actually I did like the snow effect in particular!

I just pointed my camera and clicked, as I do, (wonky with the lighthouse, as Viv pointed out), so I thought I’d captured the Rock. (not yours!) I’d better recaption it “stacks”?

I love your picture effects Jo, very fun. I’m the opposite type of traveler to you – I might google to find out the key things I need to see in a new place but I don’t like to read about them until I’m actually there with a context to put it into. I hope you have a great trip!

I hate to come home and find I’ve missed something that I would have enjoyed, Georgia, so I always read up. I’m low tech too and don’t have smartphone or anything other than the TI, my guide books and my nose to help me out (boring old fuddy, duddy in other words).
Porto is proving a challenge because I only have 6 days and so many directions to go in! Thanks for your comment.

Thanks, Jess. The ideas keep bubbling in my head, but I need to book my hotels before I do anything else, or I’ll end up sleeping on the riverbank!

You’ve really been having fun. Was that you, or is that lighthouse emulating the leaning tower at Pisa?

All the lighthouses in the north east emulate the Leaning Tower, Viv. I’m surprised at you not knowing that!
