Why does the river turn red?

Cistus and wild lavender Rock roses and red soil
Many people asked last week. Because the soil is naturally a rich red and washes down from the hills in heavy rain. All is beautiful up there right now. Have a good weekend, and don’t forget to visit Debbie at Six Word Saturday

Schรถne Impressionen Jo…
Danke, Ernst ๐ ๐
Jo’s, these are gorgeous flowers. In the US, there are places where the soil is red like this, so I imagine the rivers can run red there as well.

You might expect it in the Canyon in places, I suppose, but the colouration doesn’t last long ๐ ๐
Your Rock Rose is gorgeous, Jo. ๐
They are such a lovely thing, Jane. I look forward to them every year ๐ค๐ธ๐บ๐ฎ๐
it looks like spring has arrived in your part of the world, Jo! far cry from the blankets of white here ๐ ๐
I know! I’ve been reading about ice storms and all kinds of misery, LolaWi ๐โ๏ธ๐
It really does look like spring there, Jo. Gorgeous flowers. xxx
It really is, Ad! Though it’s been cooler and cloudy this afternoon. A minor hiccup ๐ ๐
Lovely images! I feel warmer already – and I learned something new about red rivers. ๐
Glad you could spend a little time with me. Thank you ๐ ๐
You are most welcome. So am I. ๐
Thanks, Jo, for sending some spring to cold Texas! ๐
I hear you’re having a very rough time out there, Pit? Hoping a little warmth comes your way. ๐ ๐
Such beautiful flowers, Jo ๐งก
Some of my favourites, Aiva ๐ ๐
Why indeed.
I love how you’ve turned our attention just by your 6Ws.
Thank you! When we were walking in the hills this week I was very conscious of the redness of the soil, and thought this would make a good illustration. Did you see the river in last week’s 6WS? It was very orange ๐ ๐
I just went to have a peek – it is very orange indeed! It’s not the same location as this current post, is it?
These are the hills above Tavira. Heavy rain washes soil down into the river. ๐ ๐
Ah! I wonder if the red soil affects the wildlife.
I don’t actually know that. We have native species, of course ๐
Those flowers seem quite large … and well captured. ๐
Big and beautiful, Frank ๐ค๐ฎ๐บ๐ธ Thanks! ๐
๐ … A culinary treat planned for your Saturday?
Cheese scone with sweet chilli jam, Frank. I believe our scones are like your biscuits? ๐ ๐
Wonderful!
So pretty! Happy Saturday, Jo. โค๏ธ
Thanks darlin! And to you ๐ค๐
They are lovely. I like the pink ones too, do they grow wild there? And you do have some yellow after all. ๐๐๐
Yes! The pink ones are often out first but I prefer these beauties. They will cover the hillsides in another month or so ๐ค๐๐
So beautiful Joโฃ๏ธ
I love them, Sling ๐๐
Have a good weekend Jo!
Thanks darlin! You too ๐ค๐
Love this flower Jo ๐ ๐
Thanks, darlin! Take care ๐ ๐
Beautiful flowers!
Favourites ๐ ๐
Such pretty flowers!
Aren’t they? I love them ๐ ๐
Definitely!
Beautiful! Youโre almost a whole season ahead of us! The image with the lavender is wonderful. I can even smell it ๐
I can never resist touching it so my hands smell of lavender. Avoiding the buzzy creatures, of course ๐ ๐
Aren’t they pretty and I could do with some of that sunlight.
I was surprised to find them so early. Fabulous! ๐ ๐ Happy weekend, darlin!
Luanda me both, Gilly!
No sunshine there, Sue? ๐ฆ ๐ฆ
No, ducks
๐ฆ ๐ฆ
Oh, I do love a good rock rose. Are they out with you already?
They are! I took these during the week. Not in volume yet, but so lovely! My Algarve favourite, I think ๐ ๐
Definitely a fine choice.
