Why does the river turn red?

Cistus and wild lavender
Rock roses and red soil
Many people asked last week. Because the soil is naturally a rich red and washes down from the hills in heavy rain. All is beautiful up there right now. Have a good weekend, and don’t forget to visit Debbie at Six Word Saturday

Schöne Impressionen Jo…

Jo’s, these are gorgeous flowers. In the US, there are places where the soil is red like this, so I imagine the rivers can run red there as well.

You might expect it in the Canyon in places, I suppose, but the colouration doesn’t last long 🙂 🙂

Why indeed.
I love how you’ve turned our attention just by your 6Ws.

Thank you! When we were walking in the hills this week I was very conscious of the redness of the soil, and thought this would make a good illustration. Did you see the river in last week’s 6WS? It was very orange 🙂 🙂

I just went to have a peek – it is very orange indeed! It’s not the same location as this current post, is it?

These are the hills above Tavira. Heavy rain washes soil down into the river. 🙂 🙂

Ah! I wonder if the red soil affects the wildlife.

I don’t actually know that. We have native species, of course 🙂

They are lovely. I like the pink ones too, do they grow wild there? And you do have some yellow after all. 💛💛💛

Yes! The pink ones are often out first but I prefer these beauties. They will cover the hillsides in another month or so 🤗💕💕
