It isn’t easy to post this week. I have a myriad of beautiful images of the Christmas lights sparkling around the Algarve, but on this day I will be saying goodbye to two men. One, a family member- my stepbrother who loved and cared for my Dad like his own. The other, a man who loved life and was loved in return. Both leave behind grieving widows, and families who are shocked at an unexpected turn of events. It’s never easy, but this is a time of year when everybody is set to celebrate. Without them.

The sun goes down
And the lights come on
A seat awaits
Rudolph has left his antlers
But all is peaceful in the stork’s nest

And on the waterfront
The sign of the cross

RIP Tony and Terje.
Condolences to you and your family on your losses. 💕

It makes you stop and be thankful, Noelle. Both were some years younger than me. It’s been a sad day, but thanks for your kind thoughts. 🙂 🙂

Thanks, Esther. 🙂 🙂 A Norwegian friend here contracted Covid. Unbeknownst to us, he had lung cancer 2 years ago. His lungs were an easy target for the virus and in a matter of weeks he was on life support, which had to be turned off last week His widow has been incredibly brave through this, but then last weekend my stepbrother had a heart attack. Today has been very strange, with one service on Zoom and one in the local church.

I know each story is individual. But there are just too many stories that sound the same. We really truly think of those we know even if only across unknown paths. We walk with each other in our thoughts.

Jo, I’m so very sorry to read this post. Death at any time is an unwelcome visitor but at a time when one’s instincts are turned towards being happy and involved with family, it’s an even harsher visitor. Your lovely images are a tribute to the two men you describe and I know you will have them close to you in memory. I don’t pray, but I send you good vibes and hopes for a stress free few days over Christmas.

This was such a beautiful evening in Olháo, Margaret. I loved the images and had no idea how else to mark the occasion. In retrospect I realise that I wrote a post with the same title for Dad, 4 years ago. He and Tony were so close. He was the perfect stepson. 🙂 🙂
