Playing with shadows

You can’t get more dramatic shadows than those around the cathedral in Seville on a dark evening.  I imagine it’s wonderfully peaceful now but the atmosphere was vibrant when I was last there.  Today I’m playing with shadows for Jude’s 2020 Photo Challenge #18

I love the description of photography as writing with light.  I’ve always considered myself a writer rather than a photographer.

I like photos to tell a story, or make me want to linger.  How about you?

      1. It would be and I’m pleased that part of the world’s slowly coming out of it. Unfortunately, I think this uncertainty in our lives is here to stay for awhile. Loving our own backyard is the focus. We’re very fortunate to have so many good travel memories. Places we would’ve revisited.

  2. Lovely shadows and of course, as always, your prose complements it all so well. I remember when I had the mad idea of learning Greek (it didn’t last longer than a few months in summer) one of the first things I learnt was the meaning of photography (graph for writing, photo of light = writing with light). It did make learning the language slightly easier after that as I learned to try and connect words we have adapted from the Greek – and the spellings – but I still let it go. Nevertheless, a tiny little bit remains. I’m still struggling to get a site up with WP but still having problems.

  4. I could have sworn I commented here early this morning, but it seems to have vanished! Maybe in spam? Or maybe I didn’t press the enter button, I was using my phone after all and can easily cock things up on that! Anyway I said that I love the couple through the gate in the dark shadow, very dramatic and very Sue like, and I like the ornamental gate in the dark too. Some pretty patterns on the water, but I am sad that you didn’t show me the dinosaur 😥 Thanks for sharing these. I have been busy compiling images for Sunday! And now I need to get outside and enjoy the sun – mow the lawn and empty some pots ready for the summer flowers 🌸🌺🌻🌼

      1. I didn’t realise that you could walk to the beach, I thought you had to drive or catch a ferry. Hope we can do that soon, but it’s also a bit worrying here, so many deaths an d they are still letting people into the country without proper quarantine rules.

      2. Ok, I’ve misled you- we have a short drive to a village on the outskirts of Tavira and then a 20 minute walk via a bridge and a causeway. You can walk the whole way but I seldom would or I wouldn’t have the energy to walk on the beach 🙂 🙂 (or home again! )

  8. Interesting effects here in these scenes, Jo. Capturing moments from the dramatic to the mysterious … and to that dappling effect of shadows on water. Definitely agree story telling needs the play of shadows 🙂

  17. I agree Jo, I consider myself a snapshot-ist rather than a photographer, but I like the ones I take to be part of my story. And you use both words and pictures to great effect – always, Happy memories of Seville here, for me – thanks.

    1. Thanks, Sue! 🙂 🙂 I had some spikey agave shadows that looked a bit like a dinosaur following Mick along the road, but I decided I was being a bit fanciful. 🙂 Even for me!
