The eccentricity of an English summer
Last Sunday we attended a charity event in the magnificent grounds of Aske Hall, in North Yorkshire. Situated in beautiful countryside, near the village of West Gilling, we had no idea of the high jinks in store. Meet the cast!
The view down to the lake. It’s quite a place, and incidentally, was open for the Heritage Open Days this week. One of many, isn’t it, Becky? Just three pink squares this week. Did you spot them? I’m worn out with climbing all the stairs, but Debbie’s having great fun. Hope you’ve got your Six Words ready? Have a happy Saturday, everyone!

Looks like a fun day out at a lovely place. Great photos as always, I love the view down to the lake but my favourite this time just has to be the one looking through the trellised arches, the autumn colours gorgeous 🙂

Incidentally, I went on a couple of local Heritage Open Day visits myself yesterday but the local weather is grey, drizzly and miserable so I stayed inside for mine 🙂

It was the same here yesterday afternoon. We ended up in the Oriental Museum at Durham. Sunnier today… so far! 🙂 🙂

Yes, that’s everyone’s favourite, Eunice. The vines were just turning beautifully. I don’t think Autumn will be long coming. 🙂 🙂 Thanks a lot!

You’re really making the mst of ‘home’ aren’t you? 🙂

I guess so! 🙂 🙂 Gardens and a castle planned today- part of the Heritage Open Days. Mick loves ‘free’! Happy Sunday, darlin! Sunny? It’s just sneaked out here after pouring last night.

A white one, with a pink nose 🙂 🙂 There are so many events going on that you can end up chasing your tail and getting nowhere. Yesterday was ruined by the weather but we managed the Oriental Museum at Durham. Gardens and a castle today. All thanks to you, because I probably wouldn’t have even known about it otherwise. Thanks a lot, darlin! Sending hugs 🙂

I know it can be overwhelming. Someone said that to me yesterday.
So glad you are attempting a few though. Hope weather better today. And thanks for hugs I need them! So tired yesterday evening and that was only day one of the preview. Next weekend I’ll probably be curled up in a corner!!

Then a bit of winding down, and eventually Algarve. You need it! 🙂 🙂

Such a wonderful array of colours Jo! Love the Alice In Wonderland theme too! Hope all’s well with you and yours – just coming to after our trip.Got the most horrible flu at the end of the trip in Seattle, which was not at all pleasant and we also had some sad news as my uncle passed away quite suddenly (my dad’s brother). Feeling much brighter now and getting back into blogging and sorting through our photos. It’s been so wet here and the garden is overgrown with weeds but today you can feel spring is just round the corner. Hope you have a lovely weekend xx

I’ve missed you, hon, but I wasn’t sure how long the holiday was, and just assumed you were catching up with family. Sorry about the uncle, and the flu. Sometimes it takes a lot of fighting off, but Spring definitely helps. Thanks, darlin! Look after yourself 🙂 🙂

Thanks Jo – yes we’ve been back a week. Lots to catch up on – have a pile of correspondence and bills to work through today. Spring has temporarily disappeared – it’s cooler and wet today but the spring flowers are just starting to come out. Have a good week! 🙂

Perfect whimsy! I hope the benefit was successful, Jo. And the fall colors are a bonus. 🙂

The vines were just ripening, Debbie. 🙂 🙂 They were fund raising for the renovation of a local listed building and judging by the numbers there I think they did alright.

We are so lucky to have such a heritage in the UK. I hope more homes/gardens are opened to the public.

There was a sheet with clues on that the kids could mark off which cards they’d spotted, Helen, and they were in alphabetical order. They had a great time. 🙂 🙂 Thanks, darlin! Yes- she would!

What fun! That could have been a Monday walk, but a Six Word Saturday walk is just right as well. 🙂 Our weather has cooled off a bit, too, and we’ve been having a lot of rain, rain that would be welcome many place in the world and I’d share, as we’ve had enough for now. Looks to be another cool, cloudy day, but the sun is scheduled to come out tomorrow, which will be much appreciated. I’ve been feeling a bit gloomy myself and am ready to be done with that!

I have too many candidates for Monday walks already, Janet. I planned to take a blogging break from the end of this month but at the rate I’m going… 😦 Coolish and grey here today, with rain forecast, which is a shame as I had an outing planned this afternoon. We’ll see! Don’t be glum, chuck 🙂 🙂

I’m taking a blogging break starting next week for a trip to France. Although I’ll miss everyone for a bit, I’m looking forward to the break. Hope it clears up there and I’m feeling better. Always do. 🙂

How very autumnal looking. I miss the long evenings already. My favourite here (and I love them all) is the archway with the grapevine over it, you have captured lovely light and colours here. How’s Mick’s gout? Improving I hope.

Yes, nights are closing in. 😦 😦 There was only this bit with the vines where the leaves had turned so we’re not far on yet. Much Autumnal joy to come, but I’ll miss most of it. He’s lost the limp, so that’s good news. 🙂 🙂

I especially like the Autumn leaves. The beginning of Autumn is always so nice. Getting cooler now, after an arm-wrestling competition I had to agree to the heating going on last night!

Already? Crikey is it that cold? I won’t put our heating on until November. Though I will light a fire if it turns too chilly.

Still in t-shirts though I do sometimes have to put a jumper on in the evening. I don’t really feel the cold. Must be that Yorkshire upbringing 🙂

Beginning or end of November?

Beginning usually. After the autumn half-term. We do have to use oil though and have underfloor heating. It is very good, but not cheap!
