Six word Saturday

Kynren – an epic tale of England!

From one local extravaganza to another!  Last week, the Tall Ships.  This week, I give you Kynren.  Performed by a cast of locals and volunteers, in the grounds of Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, I was enormously impressed.  A history of England, the action was fast-paced.  I apologise that many of my shots are blurred.  Please follow the captions.

A dramatic sunset heralds the performance

For an hour and a half the action unfolded before our eyes, building to a crescendo of lazer beams and fireworks.  It was beautifully done.

2,000 years of history, myth and legend, performances run until 15th September.  Meanwhile, Debbie has some exciting news to share in her Six Words this Saturday.  Why not join her?  Have a happy weekend!

  1. An amazing post – a pageant so beautifully documented. And the blur in fact works. Did you daughter and her partner have anything to do with this? May the week give you treasures. I’m on countdown. Less than two weeks to go.

    1. Woo Hoo! Not Lisa though tomorrow’s post features her. I booked this some time ago hoping the weather would hold. It did! Lazyish day today between very busy ones. Sending hugs xx

  2. I love the pageantry, Jo. 2,000 years in 90 minutes was a producer’s dilemma, but it appears to have been successful! i love the beautiful lighting. 🙂

  3. Looks very interesting. I am put off going to events at night because I dislike driving home in the dark, but sometimes one has to. You need a fast lens to capture scenes in such low light. But blurry shots do at least convey the sense of movement which is nice to see. Hope you are having a lovely weekend. We had rain this morning and it has been cloudy with fat sullen clouds hovering all day, but not producing any more of the wet stuff. Warm and humid, but tomorrow should be brighter.

    1. It was a very skilful production, Jude, and the effects were beautiful. 🙂 🙂 Driving home was a hoot! We saw more obscure Durham villages than enough, but we got there in the end. Grey all day again but we were at Durham for Streets of Brass. Last year it poured so grey was an improvement and the bands were brilliant. Modern stuff 🙂

      1. Who me? As I said to Sue, ‘it’s what it says on the tin’. Peaceful day tomorrow because we’re in Bishop Auckland with the walkers on Monday and Knaresbro seeing our Algarve neighbours on Tuesday (and then on to Leeds because that will save Mick a drive 🙂 )

    1. It’s in its third summer, Pit, and is proving really popular. The organisation is great and I never saw so many smiling faces. 🙂 🙂 Hope your weekend is great too!

  4. Wow, Jo, what pageantry and excitement! It looks all so impressive; I’m sure it would take my breath away. Even your blurry pictures capture the movement and the feeling of fleeting history. I especially love your photo of the dramatic sunset and the one of the horses (or “cast members”). Wonderful. I want to go! 🙂

    1. I kept thinking I’d got a shot of the jousting as they thundered past, Cathy, but every one was a blur. 🙂 🙂 Lots of atmosphere though, and a lovely evening.

      1. It’s hard to capture movement even in the daylight, but at night, it’s even harder! You still captured the pulse of the event. Hope you’re having a good weekend, Jo. We had pouring rain all day yesterday. 🙂

      2. Hiya Cathy. Been in and out of the garden all morning. It was overcast the past day or two so it’s nice to have the sun back. Going to see a neighbour who’s not well then I’ll be back online xx

  5. You should collect all these UK festivals and events into a book, Jo. I’m sure it hasn’t been done and it would be useful to both UK residents and visitors. Idea for a bad weather winter?

    1. I think you’d enjoy it. Pretty well organised and Kim knows her way around those parts. We had no real clue where we were going on the way home but we made it, eventually 🙂 🙂
