A grey day on the Quay
On Tuesday our luck ran out on the north east coast, and grey replaced the blue. Was I down-hearted? Not at all! The Blacksmith’s Needle in forged steel still looked great, but when it started to rain I hot-footed it over the Millennium Bridge to Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art.
“Missing Time” by Serena Korda is inspired by the healing potential of sound and the Dark Skies of the Northumberland landscape. You are invited to sit on a chair and listen to ‘the sound of the stars’.
Idea of North explores the sense of community, place and collective belonging, connecting historical moments with individual stories. Partly inspired by Peter Davidson’s book, “The Idea of North”(2005), it poses some interesting questions. Debbie’s a little slow with her Six Words this week but I’m sure she’ll be along later. Meantime, enjoy her great photography and have a happy weekend!

I am back to the grey tomorow!

Love the sculpture at the beginning, and the art museum sounds wonderful. I love exhibits that invite the visitor to sit down and engage with the art using multiple senses. Hope the weather cooperated today and you ended up getting to see those hot air balloons, Jo!

Not a good day in the life of a hot air balloon, Susan. We saw a couple trying to inflate but none in flight. Better luck next time 🙂 🙂

That’s the problem when you’re dependent on the weather, I guess! Better luck on the rest of the weekend, Jo!

In Durham waiting for a hot air balloon festival to get under way. I’m in the pub but don’t tell! Flying is limited by the weather xx

Do you ever stay at home?
I am intrigued to know what the sound of stars is like. Can’t say I have noticed much noise from the sky, though it is the month for the cattle orchestra so ear plugs at the ready.

A bit of a non event if I’m honest but I still enjoyed it. We were home by 8 and he was watching ‘the match’. 🙂 🙂

The first part of the post sure is grey. Interesting grey, not ugly grey at all. Then, some more colors entered your day, and a roof above your head as well. It looks like you made the best of your time and the weather. Have a wonderful weekend as well, Jo!

Now, I’m intrigued – what do the stars sound like? The Millennium Bridge always looks so appealing and I’m sure if there I’d walk back and forth across it – stopping each time at the striking statue. The photo of them both is wonderfully dramatic and atmospheric!

Sensitive subject. 🙂 There are hot air balloons at Durham. The weather disrupted this morning’s flight but if it’s not too windy they will launch this evening. Mr. Grumpy doesn’t want to be trailed round Durham on a wild goose chase. 🙂

That sculpture is incredible…so much detail. I wonder how long it took the artist to create the piece. Thanks for sharing your fantastic photographs, Jo! Happy Saturday!

So Much detail on the sculpture, some I imagine rather hard to see, you need binoculars. Modern art i find can be head scratching sometimes. Now did you sit and listen to the stars. The mind boggles at what that would sound like, I never thought stars would have a sound

Binoculars would have been a good idea, Pauline. I didn’t have a pair of steps with me either. 🙂 🙂 Yes, I did sit and listen. According to the programme it’s only audible with specific radio devices, and the pre-radar acoustic sound mirrors dotted along the north east coast. I knew nothing about them and might have to do a bit of research. The music I heard was a sequence of overlapping sounds.
