A profusion of water lilies

Profusion is a lovely word, isn’t it?  And certainly one you can apply to these water lilies.  Right now I’m feeling like I’ve had a profusion of summer days.  I know it can’t last but I love it. Recently I visited Burnby Hall Gardens, in the village of Pocklington in Yorkshire.  Home to the National Collection of over 100 varieties of water lily, it’s all about profusion.  Be prepared to be dazzled!

  6. I am dazzled by your profusion of amazing water lily shots, Jo. The colors, the shapes, the immensity and quantity of them, just lovely. I can almost smell them… I saw a few during our long country drive yesterday, but did not tell my husband to stop so I could take a photo. It is much easier to enjoy yours! 🙂

  8. I did spot a heart, Jo! These are incredibly gorgeous in their many colors and pad shapes. I have half a dozen in my back pond and feel like that’s a treasure. These overwhelm! I honestly wouldn’t have guessed there were more than one hundred varieties that would all grow thrive in one climate! Delightful!

    Do you have alligators over there? The last time I saw this many water lilies in one place, there were even more alligators peeking out from under them.

    That looks like a wonderful place that you visited. My favorite of the water lilies pictured are the pink ones (images 9380, 9382, 9384). 🙂

      1. You’re welcome and I don’t blame you! I’m glad that you don’t have to worry about those fascinating, but terrifying, creatures. There is a park relatively close to us (about 30 miles) that has thousands of alligators. There was one beside my foot while on the path once and I didn’t even know it. Had I moved even one inch over to the right, my foot would have been in its mouth. Scary thought. It was an exciting adventure. Those days are long behind me now, though. I want to take the risky shots, but I don’t want to be someone’s snack, either. 🙂

  17. Lol, you have perfect taste, I took some photos of lily pads a couple of weeks ago and could have done a very similar post (not written as well though!) Yet another place I’d like to go to in Yorkshire, I love watery gardens and the yellow lily is like one I had in my old pond, it was fragrant, were any of these? I see you nearly fell in, Daisy the dog did, she got too enthusiastic about a coot, so then of course I had to let Dido in as well to cool off 🙂 I hope you’re having a good week darling, the weather has changed here, rainy and grey with a little sun and very humid.

    1. You’re just going to have to visit Yorkshire one day, Gilly. Did you see ‘your’ heart? 🙂 🙂 I don’t think any were fragrant but I was focusing more on balance than smell! There were some huge fish lurking in there and looking hungry. A couple of youngsters in wellies nearly got eaten! Thanks, darlin’. Thursday evening hugs!

  18. Fabulous! I love your photos and the colors and compisitions and collection as a whole. What a wonderful way to start my day. Profusion f beauty indeed. Was it Monet or Manet who did thise stunning paintings of waterlilies? Your first few photographs made me think of those incredible paintings. I guess artists have been inspired by water lilies for a long time. So lovely. Thanks!

    2. The Monet garden in Giverny is fabulous, Peta. We were there for our Silver Wedding 2 years ago. I’ve always wanted to see those water lilies and they didn’t disappoint. These were lovely too 🙂
