Are you ready to be frightened?
I’ve never been a big fan of Halloween but I hate to be a killjoy. You have to enjoy the ingenuity and enthusiasm on display. The cafe in our local park has put the Christmas tree up, but decorated it Halloween style. Just a few adjustments and they’ll be good to go for another festive season. Help!!! It’s barely November…
Have a great Saturday, however you spend it! Cate was very late last weekend so I missed many of you with my duck tales. Hope it was a good one. Don’t forget to share your six words, if you can.

It’s a bit of fun for the kids, but it seems to be becoming incredible commercial, perhaps because it barely existed when I was a child it doesn’t mean much to me. I was in a shop early yesterday and was served by a young man that had the most dreadful skin, as if he’d had grafts for burns and I tried not to stare, then I realised it was brilliant make up 🙂 🙂 🙂

Everything’s gone the commercial route now, hasn’t it, Gilly? We had our share of the little giggly ones round the doors and I quite like that. 🙂 Everywhere seems to have Halloween decorations this year- so many of the shops! We were in a favourite Italian restaurant at lunchtime and there were ghoulies suspended from the ceiling there too. 😦

Here Halloween is a pretty big thing. My kids remember their trick or treating days fondly. The Halloween/Christmas decorations don’t look too spooky. 🙂

It’s definitely going that way here too, Sue. We have a huge ticketed event in the marina and the kids can go and get hyper excited and scared just a little witless, out of harms way. Sadly, many parents are frightened to let their kids out at night these days, so at least trick or treating gives them a bit of outdoor fun. 🙂

Now that’s a creative way to get the tree up early. I’ve been answering the door to trick or treaters all night. The older kids are out later, I prefer the young, cute ones. Happy Halloween!

I like the little ones too, all shy and giggly, with big Sis. (or poor Dad, lurking 🙂 ) Hope you had fun!

Call me Mrs Grumpy, but I hate Halloween with a passion. The most I did when my kids were young and we came back to live in England was to carve a pumpkin, but I refused to let them go trick or treating. They weren’t bothered about Bonfire Night either as they (the eldest two) hadn’t heard of that so apart from a couple of local ones that fizzled out quickly too. I must admit I did enjoy bonfire night – collecting firewood and rubbish for months to build huge fires, parkin, blackened baked spuds and the small box of fireworks! Halloween and all its commercialism is one of those things we should have left to the Americans.

Judging by the late hour of your visit, Jude, I thought you’d been out trick or treating 🙂 🙂 At least you’ll not have many callers at your new place next year! I don’t mind a modicum of grumpiness. 🙂 I could easily live without, but I don’t mind the little ones arriving at the door all excited, with big Sis or Dad lurking in the background. Gets them out in the fresh air 🙂
Fireworks though, I love with a passion! Organised displays please- I really think public sale of them should be stopped. Happy Sunday, Jude. I’ll be watching Rafa and Fed. There’s a novelty 🙂

I just lost a couple of hours watching Rafa but it was time well spent. 🙂 Who did you want to win in the rugby?

Not bothered who won, both good teams. Poor Lorenzo is going to have a hard time though as he is South African/New Zealand/Australian!

Don’t follow rugby but Mick sort of does. 🙂 (well, he played when he was young and daft 🙂 ) Unbelievable day here today for 1st November! Glorious on the beach this morning.

It was supposed to be good here too, but fog lingered all day and now closing in again. Much colder than yesterday too. Coming from a city which did not have a football club, rugby (league of course) was ingrained in me at an early age. I don’t watch it much now, but saw a few games during the world cup.

Oh yes the Rugby final I can crow on both sides, sat up in bed at 5am New Zealand time (in NZ of course!!!) to cheer both sides on, it was a good game and New Zealand went just crazy, even had black milk bottles and the iconic weetbix was in a black box covered with the all blacks doing the haka. I think NZ came to a halt when the team came home…

By neighborhood really outdoes itself for Halloween. Many of the decorations are ghoulish and macabre, but I enjoy seeing how creative people are! This year’s trend = creepy clowns. *shudder*

Oh,no! Don’t send in the clowns, Jackie 😦 So many shops and restaurants seem to be decorated this year. Definitely a growing trend. 🙂

I always like seeing the decorations and costumes, but I am not into it as much this year. We are thinking trick or treating may be postponed. It is a rainy day here.

Shame when it’s wet! I like seeing the little ones in their costumes but we don’t get many callers these days.

What a great idea to put up the Christmas tree in October and decorate it for Halloween! Making the holidays work double-time. I’m not a big fan of Halloween myself, Jo, as I never feel like bothering with a costume and any parties or gatherings at this time of year call for creative costumes. I was even debating whether to stay at home and hand out candy or to go out to dinner and a movie. Mike opted to give out Halloween candy and I voted to go out, but he won the argument. Hopefully we can find a good movie to watch at home.
Hope you’re staying warm there in England. It’s been pretty nice here so far. 🙂 xxx

We’ve had a great day so far, Cathy 🙂 Walked through the pretty park to zumba this morning, then went up to Durham for lunch in a nice little Italian. Watched Rafa win a hard fought match when we got back, and will be settling down to watch Strictly soon. Got the bag of sweets so I can send Mick to the door if the little vampires arrive at an exciting stage. We know how to live! 🙂 🙂 A lot of the youngsters go to a Halloween event in the marina so we may not get many visits. Weather’s mild. Happy Halloween movie, Cathy!

Sounds wonderful, Jo! You certainly do squeeze a lot in. Does Mike do zumba with you? Strictly? Is this a British show I should look up? We’ve been watching Indian Summers, which is interesting. We got a lot of sweets to hand out tonight as well, mostly chocolate and most of which I fear I will eat myself. I was doing so well with my weight loss until my birthday weekend and two days in Charlottesville with Sarah! Alas!! Happy Halloween to you, Jo! 🙂

No, I’m the zumba queen 🙂 But I’ve had a few knee problems so maybe not for long. The weekends James is home it’s a lot of boring stuff so I make up for it the other ones. Just watched ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Your American equivalent is Dancing with the Stars’ but we don’t get to see that. Just a few trick or treaters been. Opening wine soon. Have a nice evening 🙂

I have to say I’m not a fan of Halloween myself. We used to do a pumpkin thing for the kids, and have a sort of blackout treasure hunt but that’s about as far as I went. These days I pay as little attention to it as possible 🙂

I read last week that it now generates more supermarket revenue than any other celebration day other than New Year’s Eve. It seems to have really entered into our calendar with a bang. When I was a boy this time of year was all about Bonfire Night!

I still haven’t recovered from my first Halloween in England when aged six I went out with my new best friends. Their parents had told my mother it was fancy dress, so there I was prettily dolled up as a fairy with my tutu skirt, hand made wings! The silence from my friends was ghastly and I never celebrated Halloween again until my son was a toddler.

We don’t get so many now because they mostly go to organised parties and events. If they come knocking while Strictly’s on I’ll have to get Mick to scare them away 🙂

I thought the first photo of the ghost was very cute. It has such a big oval shaped mouth that it looks like it’s yawning 😀 I’m not much of a Halloween fan either, and in Australia it’s not a big occasion. But chocolate and candy never fail to go on sale this time of the year 🙂

‘Are you ready to be frightened?’ then the first picture was ‘Boo!’ – that made me smile. 🙂 It’s mixed feelings to see a Christmas tree, even if it has Hallowe’en decorations it in. I really hope the cafe is not planning to change their decorations tomorrow and leave the tree up – as you say, it is only November!!!
