I did a little window shopping

It's a long way from Christmas, but aren't these beasutiful?

It’s a long way from Christmas, but aren’t these beautiful?

I'll take you inside on one of my walks

Naturally, I walked. Β I’ll take you inside the Barbikan later ….

And show you lots of maps

And show you lots of maps

And a cosy cafe to escape the rain

A cosy cafe to escape the rain

And even beneath the Market Square!

And even underneath the Rynek, the Market Square, to Podziemia!

Even the suburbs were pretty!

Out in the suburbs it was pretty, too

Spring (Wiosna) had definitely arrived

Spring (Wiosna) had arrived beautifully (hover over the images below for the Polish names)

I might just have saved the best till last… my cousin Jadwiga (Jadzia) with her grandaughter, and our cousin Marta- soon to be a grandma too.

And a new family member- meet Nadia!

Meet Nadia! Β A joyful addition to our Polish family

There are stories to tell, and my head is still half full of Polish, but for now, I’m home again. Β I brought with me a wedding invitation for September, so I think that I’ll be back.

Time to settle into a routine, at least for a little while. Β Hope you enjoyed the preview of what’s to come, and that you have a happy weekend. Β It’s grey and damp outside, but I don’t even mind. I’ve put some more washing in, and visited Cate at Show My Face with my six words. Β Zumba soon, and a little later there’ll be Rafa to look forward to.

See you on Monday? Β Who knows where we’ll be walking to…. Β Till then, have fun!

    1. It’s always nice to be missed, Jill πŸ™‚ Thank you! I warned the husband he had a fat wife coming home. I refrained from showing all the cake photos. Aren’t I merciful? πŸ™‚

    1. They are such a lovely welcoming family, Lisa! And I never saw a happier child. At 8 months she just loves to wriggle to music and ‘dance’, and the smile seldom disappears. πŸ™‚ Hope your trip is going well? I’ll be along to check as soon as I can.

      1. She looks like a little angel πŸ‘Ό. I am pleased to hear she is loving her new life. We will set sail May 15 weather permitting (thank you for asking). Looking forward to it.

  2. My current (comparative) immobility is always significantly assuaged by your wonderful blog, Jo. I appreciate that. Great shots. Thanks.

  3. A delightful foretaste, Jo. Did you spend much time underground? I thought that museum was one of the best – preserving the archaeology to tell the history. I love the way you’ve become embedded in family. (Tell me honestly, what can your Polish do? Mine? Nothing much.)

    1. A couple of hours, Meg πŸ™‚ I thought that from an English point of view it was a bit back to front, but it was quite fascinating. Once I got the hang of the interactives I was hooked. There’ll be a post πŸ™‚
I can answer very simple questions, posed at idiot speed. It’s confidence to wade in that’s some of the problem, Meg. I was telling Paula that I need to spend some time on verbs and vocab before I go back for Przemek’s wedding. Four months should give me enough, if I just try to do a little every day. But that’s so much easier to say than do when I’m back home.
      You enjoying life? πŸ™‚

      1. Back to front how? And on the subject of language it really is a matter of putting in the time. Good luck, and tell me the tricks by which you discipline yourself. I just came home feeling humiliated by my lack of language – no idea what was going on down town. However, I did understand that the fierce Carrefour woman was telling me not to take photos of the list comparing prices at Carrefour and Biedronka! Even though I answered her in English – an equally fierce “Why not?”

    2. I discovered the video ‘hall’ at the end with some relief because I could just listen to the background story. I think, unless you’re local, you bypass a lot of things without appreciating what’s going on. Or was that just me? I’m not subterranean πŸ™‚

    1. The blog was far from my mind last week, Poppy! I wore a constant wrinkled brow, trying to fathom what was being said to me πŸ™‚ I did, however, think that a ‘windows’ post for Dawn was long overdue… when I get around to it πŸ™‚ Thanks- you too!

  5. It looks like you had a lovely time, Jo. I’d love to have done some window shopping with you and stepped out of the rain into that cozy cafe, and then enjoyed the walk through the flowery suburbs. I’m glad you can relax and think in English again. πŸ™‚

    1. I have six of those Christmas ones, given as a gift so that I can’t forget Poland every Christmas. They really are lovely πŸ™‚ (incidentally, I have 2 nominations already and will include yours when I ever can get around to doing the 5 photos, Elaine. Easier to tell you on here than email πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ )

  6. How wonderful Jo. I see you had a fab time. I would love to see Krakow. I’ve been to Warsaw 2 or 3 times, mainly in the rain, but never Krakow.
I’m in Manchester again this weekend, and it’s grey here too. I shall be doing my washing tomorrow evening when I get home πŸ™‚ Have a great Saturday!

    1. Hi Annalisa πŸ™‚ The family goes on growing and growing πŸ™‚ Nadia is the second child of Ania- Jadzia’s daughter. I was at their wedding in April 6 years ago. The older daughter is now 5. Last year I was at Weronika’s wedding and in July she is expecting her first child- Marta’s first grandchild. There is a strong family resemblance all round. I think I need to do a family tree πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Happy days to you!

    1. Well, I’m biased of course, Gilly, but my Polish is terrible and I manage ok unescorted. If you’re in the city you will find a lot of the young speak good English, and in cafes and bars naturally. The signage in some of the museums and such is limited but it’s definitely getting better. I think you’d love it. It’s a beautiful city πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Richard πŸ™‚ Maybe.. maybe not, but he’ll give it his best shot, and that’s all anyone can ask. I watched his quarter final against Dimitrov yesterday and he was looking not half bad πŸ™‚ (well- they’re both easy on the eye)
