Wake up and smell the hyacinths!

I’ve been playing again.  Can you tell?  It all started when Suzanne wrote a guest post for Thursday’s Special entitled Abstract.  Looking for a subject matter with which to create an abstract or two, I turned to the flowers I’d bought that day.  I have never seen hyacinths used as cut flowers before, but I think they work rather well alongside a purple iris or two.  And when I come downstairs on a morning, I have the wonderful fragrance of Spring.

I do have a tendency to get carried away though.  Remember Lunapic?

It hurts your eyes after a while, but isn’t it clever?  I used to love my kaleidoscope as a child, and what could be more abstract?

I hope you find something that makes you happy this weekend.  Why not share it, in six words, with Cate at Show My Face.  And Happy Mother’s Day to you ladies!

  1. Oh, how I loved this with the flowers and the crystal reflections, Jo! On a color wheel purple and green are opposites, which to me mean they contrast so lovely together.

  2. I actually love the smell of the hyacinth from a distance, otherwise the fragrance is overpowering but I love your bunch of flowers with the Dutch iris. I like the second to the last – your abstract photo. The last one gives me vertigo.

  3. You’re right, it does hurt your eyes after a while, but I do like it! Actually I like the charcoal one best of all as that highlights the textures of the flowers, but I can’t resist the softness of the iris at the end. Irises have a special place in my heart and you have chosen one with the most beautiful violet-blue shade. Happy Saturday Jo! Dull, dull, dull here and I still have my monthly photos to do!!

    1. It’s nice to have a play now and again. I had more time than usual this week, partly because the weather was dire. We do whinge, don’t we, and I try not to, but it IS depressing when you have a little glimpse of Spring and then someone tweaks it away 😦
I love irises too, Jude, and I like the way you incorporate textures and effects into your posts. 🙂 Are you finding your Bench challenge hard work?

  4. Kaleidoscopes are fun. I loved the ones I had as a child. They didn’t move quite as quickly as yours though. What beautiful flowers to play with. The iris is especially beautiful.

      1. I think the chill has broken where I am. Up in the 70’s F here. Took a bit of a walk at 10 AM. Too warm now. Sun is merciless on fair skin. 😦

  5. These are delightful Jo though I agree the moving images do hurt the eyes. I’m so glad I inspired you to have fun and hope you keep experimenting. The results are gorgeous 🙂

    1. It is astounding what you can do, Suzanne, but it’s a completely different art form, isn’t it? I was just thinking to myself that I’d rather be known as someone who has ‘a good eye’ than someone who can edit to perfection. But then, I’ll never be the latter- no patience and not enough brain. Have a good weekend! Thanks for calling. 🙂

      1. I’ve had some small social gatherings which have been quite nice. But it’s been spitting rain all weekend, as it has been for two weeks, so there’s nothing interesting to do as far as exploring. Oh the dreadful weather here!! Hugs to you!!!

    1. Truth be told, Viv, it’s not a favourite of mine, but I was fascinated to see it as a cut flower. I love the irises and they don’t smell so can’t offend anyone 🙂

  6. Very clever. I had totally forgotten about kaleidoscopes and what fun I used to derive from them. I haven’t seen one for years, I wonder if they seem as magical to children of the internet age. Happy weekend. 😉
