Young at heart

Wheee!

I’m fa-a–ll-ing!

One of the highlights of my December is always a visit to the windows of Fenwick’s department store in Newcastle-on-Tyne.  Doesn’t it just bring out the child?  This year’s theme is Alice.

It’s not always easy to get your nose pressed up against the windows, but I did what I could. After all, you’ve got to leave space for the children!

You're a very fine looking caterpillar!

You’re a very fine looking caterpillar!

Who’s your favourite character?  I was always a little in love with the White Rabbit.  The husband says it’s because I’m always late!  Well, maybe just a little…

Croquet, your Majesty? I don't believe I do.

Croquet, your Majesty? I don’t believe I do.

Oh, not off with his head!

Oh, not ‘off with his head!’

He IS such a handsome rabbit!

He IS such a handsome rabbit!

But thank goodness, it was all a dream!

But thank goodness, it was all a dream!

All’s well that ends well for another year, and many children, both young and old, will be royally entertained.  You won’t be surprised to know that this is my Christmas entry for Dawn’s Lingering Look at Windows.

When Paula announced that her theme for this week was Young– well, what’s a youngster going to do?  You will join me in visiting them both, won’t you?  We can stay young together.

  1. Thank you so much for touring the Fenwick’s department, Jo. 🙂 So much details, just amazing!
Can’t imagine the work behind these beautiful displays.

  2. Wonderful window displays, Jo. I think that Alice is my favourite character. I remember the Red Queen giving me nightmares after I read, “Through the Looking Glass.” I think the adults will enjoy looking at these windows, even more than the children do. 🙂

  3. These window dressings are fabulous Jo. The Queen of Hearts certainly looks snooty, doesn’t she? I have always loved the Mad Hatter character myself. He makes me laugh 🙂

  4. I love these photos – it must be a wonderful window display to see ‘in the flesh’. I’m trying to think who my favourite Alice character was, and I’m struggling. Maybe the Cheshire cat because he could disappear, or maybe Alice herself because she had the adventure.

    1. It was wonderfully done, Elaine. Alice was spinning in that first shot. My shot of the Cheshire Cat wasn’t so good- he had an evil orange glow, or I would have shared him 🙂

  5. What a jolly gallery Jo ! The caterpillar looks particularly spaced out 😀
I think these windows will really draw in the children (and adults ) … such a fantastical story I remember from childhood . I wonder how many youngsters of today will read the original .

  6. Even without reading the captions, ‘Alice’ came to mind … I’d love a picture of the Cheshire Cat’s smile lingering in the air though … JUst kidding. This is, again, a fabulous post, Jo! Our list of places we have to visit is getting longer and longer. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I have a link to some lovely Algarve beaches onscreen right now-much warmer! (Meg sent me the link 🙂 ) How’s NZ weather so far?
I met my friend for coffee in Newcastle and wasn’t feeling great so didn’t linger, but I don’t mind a bit of Alice 🙂

      1. So far so good, two blue sky days followed by cloudy but dry – much cooler than Sydney and much more windy, but boy does this sun burn! Loving the scenery here – everyone says NZ looks like England, well compared to Australia it probably does as it is so green, but to me it looks rather like South Africa. Hope to get a post done for the weekend, but spending far too much time cuddling the grandson 😀

  7. I don’t know this time you were just on time 😀 This post is endearing Jo. I wish I could be there now with my nose pressed against the window. Thank you for these smiles and laughs. I have to think what photo to show as thumbnail now 😀
