“Reasons to be joyful- one…two…”
My lovely friend Sherri gave me my six words this week. I was still busy thinking along the ‘Joy is‘ lines when she left me this comment- ‘I now have Ian Drury’s famous words ringing through my mind ‘Reasons to be cheerful, one, two, three…’ ‘ Sherri always manages to make you feel good, even when she’s not feeling great herself. And I love the song!
The joy continued as I walked down the road. When did I last see so much colour, still in the trees at the end of November? It really is beautiful. How can it fail to lift the spirits?
During the week, I provided huge novelty value for a gentleman walking his dog in our local cemetery. I wasn’t visiting a grave, but passing through on my way into town. This old cemetery has a huge swathe of trees and I deemed it a fine opportunity to test out the camera function on my new smartphone. My face must have been a picture as I repeatedly produced ‘selfies’ of me scowling into the phone, totally incapable of switching to landscape mode, or whatever it’s called!
Eventually I ‘cracked it’, but the dog was not amused. He and his master had by then completed several circuits of the cemetery, each time the dog having a little snarl at my heels. I must have looked like a grave robber! I smiled apologetically at his owner, waving the ‘camera’. He then ventured near enough to point out a nice wood sculpture, just in case I’d missed it. When I’ve sorted out processing, I might be able to share some of the photos with you, but that’s definitely for another week! Meantime, let’s enjoy a Festival of leaves. It’s the last week for entries.
More joy when I bumped into a friend that I haven’t seen for the longest time. Following radical back surgery, he was looking great! One last little treat- I bought myself a bunch of tiny rosebuds for just £2. They’re beaming away at me from the hearth- red, lemon and peach. So- let’s have it! What brings you joy?
In all of this, I have to spare a thought for our American friends, fighting freezing temperatures and snow. In parts of Australia they have the opposite problem, sweltering heat! All in all, it’s not looking too bad to be here in England right now. If you can find time, don’t forget to say hello to Cate at Show My Face. Without her, what would I do with my Six word Saturday?

Mophead hydrangeas and colorful leaves — yep — my favorites too! They can be counted on for instant joy!

Yes, I think so, Renee 🙂 It was a bit grey this morning but the colours still shone.

These photos are joyful! I have a renewed smile on my face. Weather wise, we are not so bad. Just cold. But just north of us, 8 FEET OF SNOW IN ONE FALL?!?! How is that possible!? Roofs in danger of collapsing. And to add to the horror, the temps are rising so these poor people are in danger of flooding. The weather in the U.S. has gone insane! Prayers are needed all around. It really is frightening.

I’ve seen some of it on TV, Gem- it looks horrendous! Floods would just be so awful. Is this all global warming do you think, or just the planet taking its own course? It seems to be hurting so many people. My heart goes out to them.

Hard to know who to believe, Jo. I think Mother Nature is paying us back for our disrespect of her. Just my opinion…

The colour and shape of leaves are a joy.
You love leaves as your photos show their beauty.
It is hot here but the sea breeze is nice.
Every where is nice if the local library has air conditioning.

I don’t much like air con, Jack, but suspect it’s a necessary evil sometimes. My friend Jude (Travel Words) is in the Sydney area and finding it very hard to live with ‘Spring’! 🙂

Yes I would rather an old fashioned fan.

What a lovely post Jo the small pleasures in life can bring so much joy! We are on the south west coast of Australia and apart from the odd very hot day it’s been a lovely pleasant spring so far unlike the east coast where it tends to be much more humid too must be very uncomfortable there at present. Love your photos! Enjoy the rest of your weekend 😃

There don’t seem to be too many ‘ideal’ places to live, do there, Rosemay? I mostly count myself lucky. Thanks for the kind wishes. Joy to you too 🙂

All gone by here, now. Nothing but black branch and evergreens punctuated by the occasional golden Tamarac, all standing silent guard over snowfields. Great work, Jo.

I know! The sun has just burst through here, Jill, but as I walked through the park this morning it was damp and grey. I couldn’t help but notice all the empty trees. 😦

I love the colours in the one in the puddle. And I love autumn but it’s on the other side of what they are predicting to be a scorcher of a summer.

Been pretty hot already, I gather? I never look forward to Winter but so long as it stays mild with the odd bit of sun I’ll cope. 🙂

Not often I say this Jo, but a cool autumnal breeze would be nice right now. Another scorcher tomorrow so they say… and this is springtime? Mindst you my DiL is feeling chilly in NZ – hope it warms up a bit there before i arrive. NIce low 20s will do me nicely. Warm enough to discard the jacket, cool enough to walk.
Love your leaves – so pretty 🙂

Hi Jude! Yes, it’s all a bit ‘be careful what you wish for’, isn’t it? Hope the mild spell lasts till you get back but I have NO idea what to expect next. The sun just burst through, transforming everything, but there’s sure to be a price to pay.
Thanks! End of season has been officially declared 😦
