Joy is… a beach and a blue sky!

Joy is... the wide blue horizon

Joy is… the wide blue horizon

An empty beach

An empty beach

The retreating tide

The retreating tide

The roll of the waves

The roll of the waves

Reflections in the sand

Reflections in the sand

A couple of fishermen

A fisherman or two

Just a puff of cloud

A few puffs of cloud

Patterns in the sand

Patterns in the wet sand

Buried treasure?

Buried treasure?

Even the clouds don't trouble me

Even the gathering clouds can’t dim my joy

For many weeks I’ve been meaning to join Kan on her lovely series Joy is…  This week she charmed me with her preparations for Diwali.  I knew it was time to share with her what joy is for me.  I know that she likes the simple things in life, and I hope that she loves beaches.  This is my local one- the simple life for me.

Please do visit her at Kan Walk Will Travel.  It’s a beautiful and joyous place.  And looking back at this post, I think it might well qualify for Paula’s Thursday’s Special, in which she visits Lake Czorsztyn in Poland.  I’ve been there so I know that it’s pretty special.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for joining, Jo! I’m ecstatic and honored! What a wonderful entry…A great Diwali gift for me 🙂 Your photos are glorious! Just looking at them made me feel peaceful and happy. I like beaches, if they are not crowded and yours is right on the mark! Thanks for the compliments too…I have a smile on my face which I can’t get rid of 🙂

    1. That’s a good response, Kan! 🙂 Thank you so much. As you know I’ve been meaning to join you for the longest time. Nothing especially struck me as appropriate, and then suddenly I thought- idiot!!! The beach, of course. I’m really glad you like it. 🙂 I’d better go looking for some more inspiration! Hope you had a lovely day yesterday.

      1. Hey Jo… we did have a lovely day, thanks! The festive season always makes us miss home even more… but then spending time with friends (in a way, the family we chose :-)) always makes it better. Here’s hoping that a lot of inspiration comes your way! 🙂

  2. I know how you love a beach, Jo, and these are some fantastic pictures to show your love. Wonderful. It makes me want to go to the beach, and I’m not even that much of a beach person. You know me and mountains. 🙂

      1. Yes, Jo, my quiet part of the week begins Wednesday at noon. Then I go slowly and easily into the weekend. I went to Detian Waterfall for my birthday weekend. It was a trek but fun. I’ll write about it soon. 🙂

      2. Yes, I came back this morning, Jo (Sunday morning) because I have to work early Monday morning. Luckily I got everything prepared before I went away, so I can just relax now that I’m home! 🙂

      3. Have to, or it wouldn’t go out, Cathy. It usually takes me a couple of days- I’m not as fast as you- and I’m walking on Mondays so by the time I come back the comments are coming in 🙂

      4. There are only four of us in the class, Jo, and two of them, Gavin and Erica, are already friends of mine. I do eat meals with them usually once or twice a week, but they don’t seem interested in travel. I like them both a lot. 🙂

  3. How wonderful, the expansive beach reminds me of several Maine beaches when the tide is out ~ oh what I’d give for a fresh sea breeze and seeing nothing but water forever.

  4. I love this one. The format really appeals, and I enjoyed seeing your personal beach. All the ingredients of beach joy: reflections, sand patterns, fishermen, and of course the pier/bridge, beautifully photographed. Enough to draw me out of comment shut-down!

    1. And not before time!!! 🙂 🙂 Seriously- I know exactly the ‘why’. They take over your life don’t they? I keep looking for some ‘blog perspective’, Meg, but not with much success. Terrible being an obsessive 🙂 Thanks for the nice comments. I must depart for a Portuguese lesson with Paula (I’m a hopeless student) but I will be over at yours later.

    1. It was part of a magnesium works and was used for shipping, Gilly, but the industry stopped functioning years ago and the pier is all that’s left. It’s interesting for photos but I suppose some day it will become unsafe and have to go. 😦

    1. Oh good! 🙂 I feel cream-crackered Jude! Too much walking today and a visit to the nursing home (Mick’s aunt). I’m looking around for someone to cook tea, but I guess that’s me 🙂 I will bounce back tomorrow.
