The beginnings of an English Summer

Love them or hate them, you can't ignore a windmill

Love them or hate them, you can’t ignore a windmill!

Even a traditional one

Even a very traditional one

Everywhere you look, there's blossom!

This year, blossom is everywhere

And the goslings are thriving

The goslings seem to be thriving

Tulip power!

And tulips rule!

The boldness of the iris

Irises are exotic

Lace curtains of

Wisteria form lovely curtains of lace

The fragrance of lilac

Lilac is fragrant

Whiter than white!

And white blossom scintillates!

On the Moors, flamboyant colour

On the Moors, flamboyant grasses wave

And in my own garden

And in my own garden, something pretty appears

Despite my head still being full of visions of Poland, my days are spent gazing at a very English landscape.  Already this year I’ve had breakfast in the garden, one of my favourite aspects of Summer.  It’s still only May, and a Bank Holiday weekend, so I shouldn’t be too despondent if the rain has arrived.  There’s still plenty of promise, don’t you think?

  1. Nice flower finds, Jo. The bottom is my favorite. Nice windmill shot too. According to my kids in the energy business, the top isn’t a windmill. It is a wind turbine. 🙂 (I’m still in London)

  2. Your flowers and goslings are far ahed of ours Jo! Wonderful photos as always. I’ve just gotten out of bed so will over promptly for breakfast in your garden. 🙂

      1. At least you have something to look forward to 🙂 Wouldn’t mind swapping our 39 Celsius for a bit of that rain!

  3. New and old … so beautiful and vivid flowers, nature is so generous, where the goslings seem to be thriving. Lovely post. Have a beautiful Sunday!

    1. Oh, I know! Fortunately I have a contingency plan for today and am hoping for better on Monday, when there’s a nice walk planned. Have a happy weekend, Seonaid. Doing anything special? 🙂

      1. Nothing planned, I’m sorting out the house and garden after being away up North for the last couple of weeks! Sticky willow has been on a takeover bid in my flower beds, and I have lots of seeds to get planted!

  4. “The flamboyant grasses” – what a lovely phrase! And a beautiful prospect as well. That last flower shot is particularly superb, with its shades of amethyst? plum? lilac? grape? deep mauve? Why do I find colours impossible to name? And beautifully framed by the leaves. I’ve saved these two to savour on my off-day.

    1. Thanks, Meg 🙂 Are you in transit again today? It’s damp and miserable here and I’m happy to be meeting a friend from ex-Polish classes for lunch.
