Six word Saturday

Still chasing romance in the moonlight!

St. Mary's Lighthouse, Whitley Bay

St. Mary’s Lighthouse, in the dark

I often accompany my garden designer husband if he’s working somewhere interesting so, when he took on a job at Whitley Bay, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity for me to see St. Mary’s Lighthouse.  I remembered it, from a school trip with my son many years ago, as a particularly scenic spot.  Perched on tiny Bait Island, and reached over a short causeway at low tide, I envisaged taking photos of the lighthouse with a backdrop of rock pools in the sweeping bay. The reality was somewhat different.

When the design was complete, Michael asked me if I’d like to come with him.  Unfortunately the appointment was for 7.00 in the evening and, as you can see from the above, a little dark for rock pools.  It was just about possible to navigate my way across the causeway in the glimmering moonlight. Very romantic, I think you’ll agree.

I guess I'll have to go back in daylight

I’ll just have to return in daylight another time.

      1. Nothing wrong with cryptic (beyond the open to misinterpretation aspect, and I didn’t! 🙂 ) Many thanks for your visit. Have a good weekend.

  1. Girlfriend, what happen to the 6 words ?????? I have a fetish for lighthouses … very romantic – wonderful shots and my favorite is the one with the door. *smile

      1. Jo, I think it’s working – but it gives me problems that I’m not happy with … first the lymph fluid has increased in my legs and my incontinence has become worst – so I don’t know what to do … have to wait until 25th when the doctor phones. Thank you so much for asking and caring.

      2. It’s always going to be a balance of what you can live with, isn’t it? Scary stuff, though, Vivi- all the drugs on the market. Take good care. No singing too loud in that laundry room! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Suze. I remember it as a grand sight from my last visit. James must have been about 5 and I was helping shepherd a school trip. Just a little different 🙂

    1. I was really pleased with the outcome, Sherri, though it was not at all what I planned. (if every wrong turn in life worked out so well, I’d be wearing a huge smile 🙂 )

      1. No, it was really just the bottom of my jeans and “rising damp”. I’m a hardy northerner remember, and it was actually a beautiful night, and not even cold.
You do seem to “go through the wars” healthwise, Paula 😦 The stress of overwork probably. Look after yourself. I was writing a post about chasing seals (sort of!) but have to go and prepare lunch and boring stuff now. Take care 🙂

      2. Seals? Thank you, Jo. You are right, the stress has debilitated me and made me prone to all my illnesses. I am doing my best to recover 🙂

  2. Got to watch for trolls when you go over those causeways at night, Jo.
I’m glad you were able to see the lighthouse. 🙂

    1. When Mick told me the appointment time I thought it would be pointless going (and cold!) but I decided to go along to keep him company, just in case there was a shot in it. And whaddya know??? A moonlit adventure 🙂

  3. Love the third shot – good shadows! My mother had a friend from Whitley Bay and we visited her when I was about five years old, she had a little boy my age and I still have a b&w photo of us together holding hands, both wearing white. Sadly he was killed not long after by running across the road after buying an ice-cream from a van. I can still remember my mother telling me NEVER cross the road behind a vehicle for years after. Sorry, that was a sad tale! Glad you made it there (and back again) safely 🙂

      1. Do they still sell sundaes in a tub? I loved them, but my mother rarely allowed me to buy one as they were more expensive than a cone. 😦
