Flowers for Jake!

You have to smile, don’t you?  Whenever I’ve done one of Jake’s challenges, I’ve always sang along to myself as I selected the images.  Don’t ask me why, but it’s become a habit.  I didn’t spot this challenge till late in the week so even by my standards it’s a bit late for a Sunday Post.

What am I singing?  Well, I was humming away to an old tune “Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing”…  I don’t know if you know it, but when I got to the line “gone to graveyards everyone” I realised what a very sad song of war it is.  And that just won’t do.  So, determined to make you smile, I’m singing the Move’s “Flowers in the rain”.  Far more appropriate for many of us, I’m sure you’ll agree?

Yes, it rains in the Algarve, but it's still beautiful!

I think I may have seen these in England, too

It's always amazing what you can find in the hedgerows

Just growing completely wild and beautiful

Or tamed in the landscape

I found this pretty fellow shining in some bushes

But I always love a "pop" of colour

So we'll end in the rain. This might be the guy for me!

As ever, I hope you enjoyed my singing.  You’re quite lucky not to be sitting here in the front room, with me! Please give Jake a little of your time and attention.  His graphics are totally inspiring (unlike my singing).

  1. such beautiful flowers Jo! love the orange one. you might have been singing “where have all the flowers gone?” because Pete Seeger died this week? not sure, but maybe? either way, great song and great artist who lived a good, long life.

    1. Hi Tobyo 🙂 Sorry I haven’t visited for a while. I spotted you commenting somewhere and meant to pop in, but I got sidetracked (always!) Yes, thank you- that’s exactly it though I didn’t even make the association myself! I loved the song, and I loved his work. Now that I think, I could have let it stand as a tribute. One day that brain of mine will work!

  2. What a wonderful gift you gave all your readers! You have probably started a tradition, where people sing as they respond to Jake’s challenges.
I like hearing people whistle and sing, I don’t care if it’s in tune or not – it means they are really content and happy. I think it is so sad when someone tells another person to stop singing because it sounds awful. They are effectively destroying the happy moment for that person.

    1. I’ve been doing it for a while, Madoqua 🙂 I can’t even remember which one it was now but my first Jake post brought a song into my head, and I’ve done it ever since. Silly really, but it’s nice to have a little fun with it. Thank you!

  3. The singing and the flowers put a smile on my face. Those flowers are fabulous. I like the photo with – ah -I think it’s got like fern in there or something. I’m no floral expert, so who knows. But very nice.

    1. Me neither- I just like them 🙂 Michael’s the expert. I saw the remarks about cut flowers on yours. I treat myself sometimes too. We have an Aldi which is very cheap.

    1. Afterwards I thought I should have titled it “Flowers in the rain”, Colline, but it wouldn’t be a wholely accurate description. 🙂 And I’m glad you liked them.

  4. Beautiful flower gallery Jo ! Love the first 2 pics. The water drops on the orange flower makes it even more beautiful. It’s been a long time since since I have seen a pink hibiscus. It’s one of the plants in my parent’s gardens and reminds me of home.

    1. One of these days I’ll put a sound cloud in my posts, and we can all sing along, Viv. I’m sure it’s not difficult but this girl can only handle so many changes at once 🙂

  5. I wish I could have heard your singing, Jo! I love those green fuzzy flowers: “wild and beautiful.” I also love the flower with the raindrops, as well as the landscape shot. It looks like you figured out how to make the pictures go to the edge of the text. Bravo! 🙂

  6. Just love your new look …. suits – have to try it out – quite a few of my friends has changed to this theme. Brilliant choice of theme.
Stunning ….. gallery – as somebody has said, that flowers is the earth’s laughter – looking at your photo, it’s so true.
