Thursday : Lingering look at Windows- week 37

Window panel on a cottage door in Whitby

Window panel on a cottage door in Whitby, North Yorkshire

Don’t you think this is lovely?  I’ve been visiting Whitby for many years and I always walk down the main pier for the lovely views back at the town and out across the bay.  Picture postcard pretty though it undoubtedly is, the weather can sometimes be bleak on that North Yorkshire coast.  This little window panel seemed to me to speak volumes of the nature of the place.

Out on the pier itself, in glorious weather, there are more windows to see.

The bluest of skies accentuate the lighthouse.

The beach is overlooked by a row of holiday cottages.  I’d already walked the clifftop and the pier, so time for a sit down and a bite to eat.  But the cobbled Whitby streets are always full of pirate treasures.

And “ye olde tea shoppes”!

In the end we found an old favourite.

It was just the ending needed to our day.

Don't you think?

Don’t you think?  But I’m a coffee person, really!

I have to admit to having a naughty glass of wine, but then, the setting was so nice.  If you’re in Whitby, look out for Sanders Yard.

Meantime it’s thanks to Dawn at Lingering Visions for encouraging me to look through windows.  If you have some you’d like to share, follow the link and meet me there.

    1. I was thinking of you this morning 🙂 Did the Ben Fogle interview go well? I bet he was charming. You couldn’t call that work could you? Have a fairytale wedding, Suze, and all the gelato you can eat in Venice. 🙂

  1. There is something so rich about the blue of the sky in autumn. I have never been able to figure out why the sky seems limitless in September and October.

    1. I’ll be dragging you along on the cliff top walk soon, Gem, then you’ll have a chance to rest those weary toes 🙂 It is a very picturesque place, but the sunshine does bring out the crowds.

  2. All lovely images Jo. And I love Whitby, though it’s been a few years since I was last there and then it was howling a gale, snowing and very, very cold!! Wish I’d known about that lovely café! Thanks for the wander 🙂

    1. You’re welcome, Jude 🙂 It can certainly be bleak, but then you have a better chance of having the place to yourself. The sunshine brings out the crowds, but the cliff top was spectacular.(yes, those photos will be turning up soon, too!)

      1. Haha, Jo, you know me too well. If you told me about the big slabs of cake, you know you’d have my mouth watering! I wish I didn’t eat so much; then I could be as thin as you! 🙂

    1. You’ve never been? Time it for the Goth Festival- you’ll have a blast! 🙂
Bank Holidays and weekends it can be a bit busy with what I can only impolitely describe as “chavs” but there’s no denying the place has character. The Abbey and St. Mary’s Church are worth climbing the steps for.
