Family fun in all its guises!
Fun is guaranteed when my Polish family from Norfolk come to visit. The above shots were taken at Saltholme, a local birdwatching nature reserve. Click on any photo to follow the story line.
In Durham, we took the Castle tour (Rafal is considering Durham University, based in the Castle, as one of his options). I was delighted to find that it was the first day of the flower festival in the Cathedral, but it was, of course, busy.
More fun is anticipated today.
What have you been doing with your week? Share it in Six word Saturday. The links or the header will take you there. Hope you have a happy weekend!

What a fabulous carved Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, I would love to visit that and take a nice little cup of tea.

Lorna, I have a terrible confession to make. I didn’t sample the cafe upstairs. I expect they have nice cake, but I’ll have to go back to check. 🙂

Ah yes, I remember visiting Durham when my son was considering attending university there 🙂
Looks like fun!

They’re a happy bunch and I enjoyed their company 🙂 They’ve gone home today and I’m surfing a mountain of ironing after cooking Sunday lunch (our son arrived home from Leeds Music Festival with lots of muddy washing on Friday night). Tomorrow’s just for me though. I’ve earned it 🙂

We sometimes take turns and visit them in Norfolk, Lynne, but it’s a quite a long drive and when Dad at 85 (with appalling driving style 🙂 ) wants to take the wheel I have to discourage him. (firmly 🙂 ) They really are lovely people.

I have never gone birdwatching before. Those pictures make it look really fun!

It’s for the patient, Becca. I’m not, so silly distractions are good. We followed a nature trail signed Kestrel Way and Mariusz (an absolute sweetheart) was disappointed that we didn’t see a kestrel the whole way. Thanks for your visit 🙂

Looks fun! I like the smiley flower display. Is the castle in the background of the last phot the one you shot up top? It’s gorgeous! Thanks for the tour. 🙂

The building in the last shot is the Cathedral, Gem. It’s perched right up on the top and the castle is across the green behind it. We climbed the Cathedral steps to take the shots downover and it was a long way up 🙂
Said my sad farewells this afternoon after a Boulder climbing expedition to a country park.

What wonderful memories you’ve made, Jo. Love the ‘castle’ turrets peeking over the trees. Yes, Arek looks very strong and up to the task. 🙂 Enjoy your last day of fun together, until the next visit. xx

The turrets are the top of Durham Cathedral, Ad. It’s in a lovely situation on the top of a hill, and the Castle complex is across Palace Green, just behind it. If you make it up this way some day I’ll take you 🙂
Said my sad farewells now. Boulder climbing in a country park rounded the visit off.

The flowers were a beautiful surprise, Colline. Durham Cathedral is very impressive in any case but the flowers made it truly fabulous. 🙂

You’d probably like the one of Arek standing on top of the Mad Hatter’s topper, Ron! I didn’t include it because it’s not a very clear shot. 🙂

Sounds a like you had a nice family visit, Jo. Was the ‘worm’ for the kids to play on? I found Hartlepool on my Google Map. The only Sampler I know of is Whitman Sampler, a box of assorted Whitman Chocolates.
..
We are back home now. It is still hot in the U.S. High 90’s F in our Texas parts.

Hiya Jim. You know all about fun with the kids 🙂
Saltholme is quite a big nature reserve with a state of the art visitor centre, and a few “distractions” like the worm and the rabbit for the younger ones.
I couldn’t think what to call those, Jim. They are kneelers that you’d find in a pew, especially designed to accompany the floral displays of each town.
We’re heading rapidly into Autumn, but I’m hanging on to every last bit of sunshine I can find. 🙂
