Who doesn’t love windows? Looking out on a bright Summer’s day. Looking in, when the lights are on, all cosy on an Autumn evening. I’m always drawn by the lamplight. Or by sunshine, of course.
But if you’re going to linger over them, the windows have to be a bit special, don’t they? I think I can offer a few from my recent trip to Poland.
I climbed the narrow circular steps of the Ratusz with my cousin, Adam, and neice, Ula. The views through the art nouveau windows were definitely special, even on a murky day. Ula confessed to me that they’d never climbed the tower before, even though they live in Kraków. I should show you how it looks from the outside.
I’ve enjoyed my first attempt at a lingering look at windows. Thanks, Dawn, for a really nice idea, and sorry it’s taken me so long to join in. I’m already thinking which windows I can use for next week’s challenge. Off I go to look through a few more.

Thank you for bringing Poland at my doorstep, Jo. Never been to there but I hope to one day explore this lovely country. The architecture is amazing! 😉

Every time I see pictures of Krakow I’m impressed by how beautiful it looks but it seems it might be worth visiting for the windows alone. Lovely!

Ooh, and the cakes, Lorna! (tempt! tempt!) Even better than the windows. 🙂

The trompe l’oeil is a stunner! Love the first tower window too. Not surprised local residents haven’t climbed the tower……I still haven’t seen the Taj Mahal 😀

Madhu, I’m shocked! Is it on your list? It must be!
Must admit, I really liked the bookstore window. I stopped and stared. 🙂

Wonderful and I would love to climb the tower. It is funny how many things we don’t do in the cities we live. I’m just as guilty–still haven’t been to the Tower of London, the Eye, the Monument–it goes on.

True. There’s a church tower in the centre of Hartlepool with panoramic views of the marina and sea. (so I understand 🙂 ) I will definitely go up there one day (and post a photo or two) but it’s often closed, or wet and windy.

Window cleaning is almost as bad as ironing, Sonel, but I’m usually lucky and my husband does them. (he says I don’t do a very good job, so I’m happy to let him do better 🙂 )
Thanks! 🙂

Whahahaha! So glad to hear I am not the only one. My 2 sons usually do the windows and hubby does the ironing as they feel the same as yours do. Yes, rather leave stuff like that to the experts hey? hee hee

So glad you climbed the tower to show us the views from up there, and especially those fantastic old bottle bottom windows – don’t you love them? But, the trompe d’oeil – that’s the shot for me! 🙂

The tower windows were a beautiful surprise, Meredith. The room enclosed the clock mechanism which was huge.
Yes, I did a “double take” when I passed the bookstore. So clever! 🙂

Amazing how many different views their are from the art nouveau window, even on a murky day. Doesn’t matter. Really like the bookstore window, a conversation piece.

I knew I hadn’t made it clear, Lynne. At the top of the tower is a sizeable room with the clock mechanism in. It has 4 windows, one on each side, hence the views. I meant to accompany the photos with a little of the tower’s history but it was getting late and I was tired. Dreadful excuse- I hate a job half done. 🙂

I love windows … they tell stories … I love them from inside out .. and outside in. Only of my best photos I took from my breakfast table at a small B&B in Tintagle; Cornwall.
They have some stunning building in Poland and espically Kraków. Love that book store windows. Great gallery! .. how is your toe doing ????

Show me your B & B photo, Viveka? Donkeys years since I was in Tintagel!
I’m convinced the Argan Oil has worked magic on the toe. It’s still very bruised but not swollen any more. I’m thinking of a walk this morning because it’s lovely. (if I can get my boots on) I walked along The Quay in Newcastle on Friday but that doesn’t count because I was wearing posh flip flops. 🙂 🙂

You have to come to … Landskrona to see my photo. It hangs in my living room. *smile … when are you coming.
I just love the oil … and it works on my hands it should work on your toe … as it does. Great! Nothing wrong with posh flip flops . Who wear boots in the summer ??? Mad dog and English woman ??? *laughter
