Bright memories – 4

The backdrop always produces a sigh. You know by now that I’m taking you on a watery journey, back in time, through the lakes of Northern Italy. We’ve traveled south today, along the western shore of Lake Garda to Gardone Riviera. A tranquil scene yet, set into the hills behind it, we encountered a strange place. Vittoriale degli Italiani – the shrine of Italian victories and former home of controversial Italian writer, Gabriele D’Annunzio, where a concrete battleship, complete with cannon, fired the imagination of a small boy.

      1. May would be good to celebrate OH’s birthday. Not this year though! We are thinking of one of those rail holidays – flights are not appealing.

  1. A great shot Jo although a slight correction if I may. Gardone is on the west side of the lake, between Salo and Maderno. Remember that holiday programme years ago with Judith Chalmers, Wish You Were Here? They always featured the Grand Hotel which is just beyond the promenade trees in the foreground – very nice if you had a big budget πŸ™‚

    1. I’m traveling north to south and always get my lefts and rights confused, and consequently east and west. I’m just as bad here in the Algarve πŸ€—πŸ’•

    1. I reckon about 26 years ago, because James would have been 5 or so. We visited 2 consecutive years, we liked it so much, staying at Bardolino first, then at Torbole. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. Funnily enough, no, Emma- we arrived by hydrofoil so it must have been mid-morning. Just a sleepy place in late May/early June. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The holiday season hadn’t started. Did you miss my fairytale castle in Arco yesterday?

  2. That’s a beautiful image, Jo. And it works perfectly as a square. I’m going to take a walk along that waterfront right now. I’ll see you got a coffee at the far end πŸ˜‰
