A journey to a mythical place

A castle hovers in the sky
Bright memories – 3
A sultry day. Small boy grouses. He’d rather be in the pool, but no- we’re going on an adventure. We walk through the verdant valley. The river flows, silently. And then, suspended in the sky, we see it! Arco in Trentino-Alto. A sight never to be forgotten, it lingers in my memory.

OMG! A feat of engineering and simply amazing,

How extraordinary. I want a layer of mist above the town so the castle actually does float. Did you walk up there? It looks like quite a steep up to me! But of course you would have been a youngster then. And you’d probably make it up there now! I am liking these memories you are finding. More please.

Well, I was much younger but we had a 5 year old with us who had just about reached his limit when we got there. You know I would have loved to π€π

Maybe a nice place to go back to with James and his family? Would he remember it?

Certainly he would remember some aspects of it but I can’t see us doing anything like that for a while. ππ

Oh wow! Imagine stumbling upon a sight like that quite unexpectedly. The castle has risen! The jaw of the weary traveler falls open as awe overwhelms. π

I can only imagine just a fraction of what you may have felt when you saw that castle in the sky.

We had three days in Como a couple of years ago. My favourite Lake has to be Lake Constance in Germany/Austria/Switzerland.

That’s great to know, Eunice! I can still remember my disbelief when I saw the castle suspended there in the sky. James would only have been about 5 (so 26 years ago!) so we never got beyond having an icecream in the main skware π π

26 years ago was the first time my ex and I went on holiday together and the very first time we went to Lake Garda – I completely fell in love with the whole place and have loved it ever since π

I remember Arco and the Sarca river very well. We would often cycle from the lake along the river on the Torbole side as far as Arco, picnic by a quaint little bridge where there was a popular swimming spot, then cycle back on the Riva side. 2009 was the first time I holidayed on my own, I hired a bike from Torbole and went right up to the castle, pushing the bike up heaven knows how many steep steps to get there. It was only when I got to the top that I found out there was a proper tarmac path on the far side! The views were fabulous though, right up the valley on one side and down to the lake on the other π

I set out kind of with the intention of creating some skwares, but when I opened this folder I couldn’t bear to skware most of them. Just one or two π π
