Last day of Carnival 2020 and Moncarapacho was making the most of it. My Dad loved a party! It would have been his birthday today and I’m smiling as I think of him, tapping his stick and nodding his head to the music.

So colourful and bringing back lovely memories
I had a read back through Dad’s story, Pauline, and it always brings a lump to the throat. He was much loved. 🙂 🙂
I want a ride on the Popeye Float!!! Love a parade and the costumes/floats here are marvelous. I can feel the spirit of your father smiling widely and enjoying every minutes of this!
He loved to be surrounded by happy people, Lisa 🙂 🙂 I’m sure there’s space for you on that float!
What a grand time with amazing costumes! Thanks!

I always wanted to go to Rio, Janet, but sometimes it feels like it’s right on my doorstep 🙂 🙂
I can see why.
You must be exhausted with all the festivals and carnivals in your area. I would never have thought that Portugal had so many days of fun. They used to see so staid, and dare one say it, dull compared to the Spanish. The contrast as soon as we drove over the border was striking. Mind you, that was in the days of Salazar and although Franco didn’t make for much mirth in Spain, the new influx of tourists was waking that country up before they got to Portugal. We loved it as it was, however, and I have very fond memories of it.
That contrast is still there, Mari, and my husband cannot abide the Spanish, noisy, zest for life. I struggle to get him over the border because he likes the peaceful ways here, but that does not mean that they do not love life in Portugal. Chalk and cheese, they may be, but we’ve had our share of good times here. And hopefully, many more to come. (but I have my eye on Cadiz for Carnival next year 🙂 )
Delightfully festive array of photos from the Carnival, Jo, thank you. Crazy costumes and structures.
A crazy, but oh so happy time, Jet 🙂 🙂 Glad you could join us.
Ahh your dad was lovely, his daughters dad. It’s a couple of years already since we were in Poland , where is time going? Hugs darling xx
I know, darlin- to my shame I had to check what year he died! 2016- so near and yet a lifetime away. 🙂 🙂 I try to hang on to family and contacts, but what do you do? Just busy living life, and bloody grateful, Gilly. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed, hon- however fleetingly.
Fabulously colourful! Is there ever a week without some sort of festival?!
A few, Anabel 🙂 🙂
A lot of imagination went into those costumes and floats. A lovely tribute to your Dad Joanne.
It’s a fabulous time around here, Sami, as I’m sure you know. Family all ok? 🤗💕
So nice to be remembering your dad at this joyous time and such a lovely parade, Jo.
He would have loved it, Kamal, but he was never here for Carnival 🥳💕
Yes Jo and just remembering him is so beautiful. Maybe he is not in the flesh but his Soul is always there with you.
Lovely Jo!
A good time for all, Arlene 🥳💕
✌
This looks like such a fun festival Jo.
The year starts here, Colline. Especially when the weather cooperates, as now 🥳💕
A lively parade. Did your dad ever get out to your Algarvian home?
He did! I think it was October time so no Carnival 🙄. And he didn’t like the cobbles or the hills but he did like a party and being surrounded by family and friends, Jude 🥳💕
Must be where you get your social skills from 😊 you are definitely a party animal 🎉😍
I love to dance. I’m not so sure about the social skills 😍
Its nice way for our love once to remember them even they are not here in our life but the spirits of them are still on our heart mind to remembers and the best way for me is the listing the music they love while they here in our life and for me music is the sounds for enjoyment love and peaceful to keep all us smile 😁 very inspiring moment of love idea mam restlessjo 😍

Sounds like a wonderful man.
He was a sweetheart 🤗💕
How lovely post. I love carnivals! In one photo I saw also a hobby horse! 🙂 Thank you.
Have a nice day!
I loved the hobby horse too 😁💕 And to you also!
Dad and I had a great time thanks Jo 🙂
I knew you would, Brian 🥳💕
❤
How lovely that the carnival coincided with the anniversary of your father’s birthday Jo. I’m certain that was the best way to remember him. Marion
The last day of the Carnival was yesterday, Marion, but I couldn’t help but include Dad today 🤗💕
What a lovely way to include your dad in memories of a fine day out!
It was a day and a half, Margaret, because we did another walk in Pecháo yesterday morning, back to the restaurant there (more cake- Dad loved that too 🙂 ) then on to the Carnival 🙂 🙂
I’m doing a walk-report for you tomorrow. Can you believe I forgot to photograph the cake …?
Often happens to me. Lots of half eaten cake shots 😘🍰💕
Yeah, but empty plate ….?
Not quite so enthralling, but it must have been good 😊💕
