I love the surprises that a garden springs. How could I forget these fritillaries, and yet every year they surprise me anew. I thought the beetle was very cute, but I’m told to keep him away from my lilies.
Lines are everywhere, aren’t they? Cheri’s Daily Post Photo is beautiful this week.
Those are lilies??? They look so exotic I expect them to be inside a terrarium. Beautiful. Also – I have a walk for your Monday, if you are still collecting: https://onesmallwalk.com/2018/04/29/walking-the-golden-gate-bridge-san-francisco/
Have a great week 🙂

They are a branch of the lily family, Susan, and I do love it when they pop up each Spring. Thanks so much 🙂 🙂 I’ll be walking till September time. After that it’ll have to be a new blog… or not 🙂

ooh yes the beetle is lethal for lilies, but they are such lovely ones I hate killing them. Your fritillaries are gorgeous . . .. I’ve not got any surprises in the garden this year as the ground elder has almost taken over 😦 I wish there were beetles for ground elder!!

Oh, there must be! Just needs a little research. 🙂 🙂 All well in your world, and settling down a little?

Can you ask your MrB when he is up!!
Well but oh so very very busy . . . currently doing 10hr days on the festival, and so no time for garden. This weekend I am having a few hours to play everyday thank goodness but I’ve got another week to go before I’ll be able to balance the work stuff and the fun stuff 😦

Fritillaries are adorable flowers, there’s nothing quite like them. How are you today my lovely? Off to pilates I expect? I’m not going far this weekend, George needs special care as he’s had a little part of his anatomy removed and is feeling a bit sorry for himself 🙂

Oh, bless him- who can blame him? 🙂 🙂 I might be going to skip zumba this morning. Very naughty but I have a venture in mind. And tomorrow we’re joining James at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Everything is in fits and starts- all or nothing! Hugs, darlin 🙂 🙂

Those purple flowers look as though they might be from another planet. So unique and what gorgeous lines indeed. Happy to say the snow has melted so dreaming of green and enjoying these beautiful spring blooms from afar.

No snow! Bliss! Our family in Canada are coming to the UK for a little warmth next week. Not sure if they’ll be lucky, Sue xx

Hope they get some sun. It’s a beautiful day here today but cold and rain in the forecast. Such is life in Canada. 🙂

I’ve never seen flowers like those fritillaries before. Here in Italy, where I’ve been the last two weeks, the wisteria seems to be on spring steroids, and at very first glance, that’s what I thought you had posted. Totally different at second glance, though! Happy spring!

Wisteria are glorious too. There are a few on our estate but we don’t have one ourselves. 😦 They grow well here though, surprisingly. These are pretty little things, especially the plum one. I’d settle for Italy right now, Lexie. It’s decidedly cool here. 🙂

Such a cheerful look at these spring flowers, Jo, and those fritillaries are indeed remarkable. Not only do they have such a geometric pattern, but the rich red color is also fetching. Lovely spring post.

Thanks, darlin 🙂 🙂 It’s really cool here this afternoon but the plants have taken it into their heads to grow, and grow they will. Spring is the loveliest season. So nice to share it with you.

These … fritillarias — I had to check! — look amazing. Very geometrical. In German (I told you, I checked) they are called Schachbrettblumen = chess board flowers. Makes sense, doesn’t it? Apparently, it is also poisonous. I learn something new every day.

I thought of them as crocodile skin flowers but that’s a much better description. 🙂 🙂 Thank you for supplying it.

Lovely photos. My desk faces my front garden with the amazing cherry tree from which I hang feeders. So as I sit here I can enjoy the show.

Sounds lovely. 🙂 🙂 We have a beautiful amelanchior at the end of the garden and I was just about to go and have breakfast beneath it when the clouds rolled in. Good old England!

What an amazing flower. All those little checks. Will it be hard to leave your garden?

Yes, it will, Meg. Our outdoor space in the Algarve is completely different, and it will be interesting to add colour and bring it to life (it’s fairly sterile at the moment as we can’t look after plants when we’re not there 🙂 ). But there’s nothing quite like an English garden. And ours, though not special in any way, has a strong hold on me. In fact, if the sky stays blue for long enough, I shall be eating my breakfast out there in a little while, under the amelanchior. 🙂 🙂
